Wednesday Mutterings

Schweitzer and its surrounding mountains were teaming up with some neat light clouds and blue sky to put on a visual show yesterday.

While driving to town via North Kootenai Road, I felt the urge to stop two or three times and snap a few photos.

I can only imagine how great the skiing and boarding were at the resort yesterday.

It's been a great start for Schweitzer this year.

Schweitzer and Scotsman Peak, along with the seven sisters in the Selkirks and Roman Nose rank high on the list for our mountains that get a lot of eye views throughout the year.

Ironically, this morning I saw the piece below that heralds America's tallest peaks.  Alaska gets the nod for having the most peaks on the list.

Kinda interesting; check out the link.

I'm listening to Christmas music this morning while typing this post and I'm loving it.

Christmas music arouses my nostalgia, and, believe me, I have a good supply.

Often, certain carols bring me to tears.  They are nice tears, though, because, with them,  come reflections of special people who are no longer here or of times of life where we can never revisit, 'cept in our minds.

It's hard to decide what I like most about the holiday period---the lights?  the cookies? receiving cards? the music? etc.?

Leading the list is probably the Christmas spirit that shows itself in a variety of ways and often when we least expect it.

Whenever that happens, our faith in humanity and the innate goodness of individuals populating this earth shines as bright as any well-lit Christmas display.

Having been the recipient of generous goodwill within our community, I know firsthand that people care.

And, when we know others care, we draw upon ourselves to emulate their example.

Caring is such an important commodity in this world, and it's nice that moments continue to happen, both giving and receiving, which perpetuate the spirit of Christmas.

I'll probably ask Bill to bring me his choice for our Christmas tree today.

And, let the decorating on the deck begin!

I don't know where or when these little bell ornaments came into my decorating collection, but I love them, as I do all the ornaments, many of which, like the music of Christmas, evoke nostalgia of a different time or of special people in my life.

Looking forward to bringing out the bag of colorful and unique goodies and deciding where each will hang on the tree.

Maybe that will happen today.  If not, tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

Happy Wednesday.

I had a nice visit with Brad and his buddy Firefly yesterday.

Our paths have crossed for years with his daughter being one of my English students and thanks to our mutual interest in horses.

Brad keeps Firefly, a Dutch Warmblood, at Roxane's stable.

It was obvious as I stood visiting while Brad brushed and visited that Firefly has a good buddy that he loves.

Brad's horse roots run deep with his parents' 3-day eventing interests, which carried on to the next generation.

Brad is known around the area for his knowledge and activities associated with show jumping.

Nice man.  Sweet horse.
