On this Saturday morning, after a brief snow storm yesterday afternoon, the landscape is pretty.
They say we should see the sun today, although it hasn't displayed any hints of sharing its rays just yet.
This morning I'm thinking about how much my friends mean to me. I don't see them all the time, but all the time they are there, many through online connections.
What a gift we all have in this world to have friends wherever they happen to be.
Yesterday, I thought about and sent greetings to a longtime friend who lives in Colorado. She was celebrating her 76th birthday. I hope she had a great day.
I also spent time, both on the telephone and in the woods, with another treasured friend.
First, we talked on the phone and did a little catching up and comparing of notes on mutual medical issues. Then she suggested that, during this time when we are trying to avoid the flu and Covid bugs which are flying, we ought to get together outside.
"What are you doing right now?" I asked. "Why don't you come out and we'll walk in the woods."
"Okay," she said.
A little while later, along with little Foster, we were walking in the woods and continuing our visit.
We spent some time talking with Bill who was out doing some more of his beloved woods work with Bridie.
My friend Chris and I have spent a lot of times in woodsy areas around Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Western Montana, so our walk in the woods seemed like a perfect time and place to do some catching up.
Several decades ago, Chris worked at the Hutton Settlement in Spokane. The day before our walk in the woods she had taken a nostalgic trip to the place which provides a safe and healthy home environment for children in need of a long-term alternative home .
She was delighted with the visit to her old workplace, so much so that sometime she would like to take friends on a tour of the place.
So, a new item was added to the "to do" list.
Our walk in the woods was not only invigorating with the fresh, cool air and beauty but also reflective of how much fun it is spending time with true blue, good friends.
I have always felt blessed to have my friends, and, while growing older, I love them all the more.
Yesterday's woods walk reminded me of that wonderful, meaningful and appreciated dimension of life.
In other news, it's Saturday and sports will probably rule the day.
Bill and I were both pleased to see Ohio State win and earn their way to the National Championship game.
We like the Notre Dame-Ohio matchup because it's neat to see Notre Dame reclaim a bit of its golden era in college football and because my brother Mike is a big fan of Ohio State's No. 2 wide receiver Emeka Egbuka who grew up and played high school football in the Tacoma area.
Mike watched him once in a high school football game and said he's amazing.
So, two good reasons to get excited about the National Championship.
It's also ZAGS game day and SHS Bulldog girls game day.
So, we've got some watching to do.
Willie's girls (7-7) take on a highly successful Ridgeline (9-2) at 5:30 p.m. in Les Rogers Bulldog Gym.
The link below should get you to the game, which is streaming on the Hudl fan site. It's free.
Meanwhile, the ZAGS have a big game against Washington State at 6 p.m.
Cougs vs ZAGS can be seen on KHQ Channel 6.
GO, ZAGS!!!!
Happy Saturday
I just love this painting, so wanted to share.
My mother once painted a pair of scenes with fox hunters and hounds for a friend. They were beautiful.
I would love so much to see those paintings again.
