It was a glorious hour up north.
We drove fewer than 20 miles and found sunshine.
The day at home had been gray. It was Sunday with no more Seahawks games to watch this season.
So, I suggested to Bill that we take the dogs up to McArthur Lake. I figured as bare as the ground is here, it would be easy walking in the wetlands area west of the lake.
Turns out there's more snow up that way, but it's not very deep. Narrow trails had been forged by cross country skis and by walkers.
We found it easier, however, to just walk on the snow in the middle of the main walking trail than to follow the human tracks.
I think Foster enjoyed the outing even more than the rest of us because it was open country. I removed his leash and allowed him to walk and trot free.
He knew enough to stay close to us, but he had a rare opportunity to do most of the walk without fear of bumping into something.
Always nice to see the little guy enjoy himself.
We passed only one other person on our walk. He was carrying a shot gun and his trusty "bird" dog, a cute little long-haired daschund had accompanied him.
When the trail ended at the lake, we could see and hear swans and geese close enough to view but far enough away that I had to settle for so-so pictures.
After our walk, we drove to the launch area at the lake. It includes two docks, and both were getting some use.
Two anglers claimed one, while a family and their dog stood at the end of another as a drone with a camera circled them a few times.
The drone operator directed his little techno bird from near the dock. He was taking videos of the family, and I can only imagine how neat they must be on that beautiful day in that gorgeous spot.
McArthur Lake and its surrounding area, as always, provided a nice afternoon getaway. We became so used to the sun on the outing that returning to the gray as we drove closer to Selle surprised us.
Sometimes it takes just a few minutes and a few miles to find that big bright orb in the sky.
Yesterday was such a day, another fine day in January.
And, more to come!
Enjoy the photos. Happy Monday.
