Just look at that adorable little bird.
When I suggested yesterday that everyone have a super day, no matter what you were doing, I never dreamed that mine would turn out downright superb.
The little bird on our light pole next to the lane turned out to be the frosting on the cake for my super day.
Never mind the exciting football game, all the upbeat, positive commercials or the fact that Willie and Debbie stopped by after they had attended a Super Bowl party.
All those moments did make a super day, but the Northern pygmy owl sitting atop the light pole along our lane in mid-afternoon on a day with the bluest of skies---those moments (at least five minutes) taking pictures and talking to the little guy seemed like they deserved a lifetime achievement award.
Have I ever in my life seen a pygmy owl and so close?
Nope.
Would I have ever believed that the bird would have just calmly remained on its perch, allowing me to socialize with it?
Nope.
I could not believe the experience, which allowed me time to give Bill a call on the cell phone and summon him out to see what I was seeing.
Unfortunately, as fast as it had appeared in my view, the owl disappeared with the blink of an eye just before Bill started down the lane.
Like I told Bill, I could have held it in my hand; it was that small.
Instead of a watershed moment, I'd call it a "Lovestead Lane" moment.
Twas one I'll never forget, and one I truly appreciate because I have the photos to remember it.
Nature has a way of bestowing upon us momentous gifts when we least expect it.
The day was lovely from beginning to end.
I spent part of the morning preparing a modest feast for Bill and me. Even though my diet has changed over the past few months, I wanted the house to feel like Super Bowl Sunday.
So, we had barbecued ribs, baked chicken, sweet potatoes, fruit and rolls.
I suggested in the morning that Bill go get his annual Super Bowl pizza.
He eventually opted to have me heat up one of Annie's Totinos pizzas but ended up saving it for today.
Having spent time in and loving New Orleans, we really enjoyed seeing the splashes of local color during the annual cultural extravaganza.
Partway through the game, Debbie texted and said they were on their way to say hello.
A few minutes later, they came, bearing a pot of Willie's chili which Willie had taken to the Super Bowl party they had attended.
So, I don't have to cook tonight because Bill had that pizza, those ribs and a bowl of chili which he scooped from Willie's pot.
Willie noted that the chili has gotten some mileage---going to their party, dropping off a load at the Lovestead and hanging out today in Colburn for dinner time at the Young Love's.
We enjoyed the game and especially enjoyed the uplifting commercials.
Although we hadn't picked a favorite to win the game, we couldn't help but root for the Eagles.
Their offensive coordinator Kellen Moore played as a very successful quarterback for Boise State.
I've also read that Kellen will probably be leaving the Eagles to become head coach for the New Orleans Saints, adding some real pride to Idaho and especially Boise State grads, like our kids.
Anyway, another Super Bowl is in the books, and it happened on what ended up being a truly super day, one of the most positive in several weeks.
Now, it's time to hope for some more of the same on this gorgeous Monday.
Have a great day, everyone.
A couple of my favorites from yesterday's Super Bowl.

Who could disagree with you? Heck, tears come to my eyes under ordinary every day circumstances every time I hear Country Roads. I would add the little girl with the potato commercial - probably just my farm girl memories rising to the surface. Someone will have to interpret the half time show for elderly me. What an exciting game - one of the best ever! It certainly gave viewers a respite from the daily barrage of (fill in the blank).
