Tuesday Twitterdeedum

The turkeys were headed north last evening when I steered them out of my yard. Years ago, someone told me that turkeys can really create a mess.

I'm living that experience right now.

They are cute, but I do not like the poop piles and the feathers they leave while passing through the yard.

They bypassed the yard but made it to their sleeping quarters, which are tall trees in the woods behind our dog run.

It's fun watching the mamas coaxing from limbs above the ground.  When each determines that the time is right, the babies launch off to join the adults.

This sunflower is doing its best to show off its lovely face, but the bean vines and blossoms don't mind obstructing its view and nearly choking it off as they make their way to the next-door neighbors house.

Thanks to the beans, my garden is turning into a jungle, but it's pretty.

In other news, it's neat to see the tidbit below about my original beauty salon in today's Daily Bee "Bonner County History" notes from 50 years ago.

The first time I ever walked into the Hair Hut was when I was in my 40s.

I was turning gray, and, one day,  asked my sister Laurie if I should get my hair done.

"It's time," she said.

Within an hour of that brutally honest assessment, I walked through the door of the Hair Hut and asked for an appointment.

Joyce and Margie looked me over and agreed that highlighting was what I needed rather than a full-blown dye job.

So, that's what I've been doing ever since.  I call it a zap.

First, Joyce did the zap, then Kelly and now, for several years, Sally has done the honors every six weeks at what is now known as Hair Tenders.

I loved going to the Hair Hut, especially during its years at the IGA parking lot where Joyce, in between appointments, would feed the squirrels.

THE HAIR HUT

The Hair Hut, formerly Idolwood Beauty Salon, 403½ Oak St., has been taken over by Janie Bradetich and Margie McDowell, both long-time area residents.

The new owners offer hair-styling for the entire family. The salon employs six operators.
