It's the height of the summer and it's cold, wet and windy outside.
Horses don't need fly masks today.
Less than 24 hours ago, the sun was shining and the temperature was soaring.
I had even changed into shorts in the afternoon.
What a difference!
Weather conditions overnight left things pretty messy: limbs and leaves scattered about, a few cornstalks and tall flowers blown over, mud puddles and a general scene where cleanup will be needed.
I've already carried a few broken limbs from the yard and have done some raking.
We need the rain. I haven't, however, heard anyone say they wished the wind would blow harder, 'cept for maybe some lake sailors.
Weather conditions have also led to a welcome lull in the places to go, people to see department. It's been a busy few weeks, and it's nice to at least feel like a breather could be possible today.
I was thinking this morning about what July 15 used to mean for me as a teacher. When the date came, summer slacking off went.
Twas always the date when I would start decreasing my sleeping-in hours. It seemed to me that the discipline of facing a new school year would be much easier if I didn't wait to the last minute to complete my lesson plans or change my sleep patterns.
And, so on this July 15, I rejoice, knowing there are no lessons to plan or get-up times to adjust.
It's simply July 15, these days without significance.
Happy Tuesday.
Above: first sunflower of the season. Even it looks a bit windblown.
Photos from Annie's Travels in Slovenia . . . . Another full day of exploring Slovenia! Had a fun evening wandering around Ljubljana with my friend Igor!
