Sadly, it's fairly easy to get a good view of the smoke from the Sunset fire northeast of Athol, which is 25 miles from Sandpoint.
This photo was taken yesterday afternoon near Memorial Field.
This morning's paper said wildfire had grown to 1,600 acres. More than likely, it has continued to expand since the paper deadline.
The blaze has resulted in a second day of evacuations with authorities also designating some areas to be in the "ready" and "set" modes.
Sagle School has been set up as an evacuation headquarters, with support from the Red Cross.
Facebook was lighting up last night with individuals offering space for animals evacuated in the general fire area.
Let's hope today's cooler weather and predicted rain do their job to lessen the potential danger of this fire and others in the region.
Yesterday was pedicure day for the horses.
Even though Steve came earlier than the usual two months, CB's hooves were ready for the nippers and the rasp.
Lefty's were doing okay, but Lily needed to be reshod.
So, they're set for the next two months.
The timing was right because my sister Laurie is going to do some refresher work with CB.
He's been well-trained. He just doesn't get ridden much.
This morning he's rather unhappy because he stayed in the barnyard away from Lily and Lefty.
Lots of shrieky whinnying.
Herd animals don't like humans to upset their routine by keeping them away from their friends.
He'll survive.
Some people are so thoughtful.
Thank you, Therese from Snowbird Frames for sharing your talent with this painting by my mother.
A lovely and treasured surprise.
The Taylors, across the road from us, are having baby calves in August rather than the usual winter time.
So, it's been a treat for us to see the babies, especially when they start racing around the field.
This morning my brother Mike posted the photo above.
They are beginning the second half of their stay in Luarca, Spain, and their daughter Maureen arrived to spend some time with them.
I've heard that some of the "outlaws" in the family will be visiting them later this month.
Mike and Mary are wonderful hosts so the visitors are lucky.
