Saturday Slight

Another cool morning and a definite feeling of fall in the air.

Snowberries seem to suddenly be ubiquitous.

I learned last night that this year's Bonner County Fair activities begin tomorrow with the entering of exhibits. UPDATE:  And, now I've learned that TODAY (8-4) is the day to enter nonperishables and Monday (8-12), the perishables.

A bit of a shock, to say the least.

And, somewhat disappointing because my pumpkins are not at all ready for the fair.

I do have some nice green beans, and we all agreed that there's a photo Bill took a while back which ought to go to the fair.

If all works out, the photo will go.  Plus, I'll try to keep closer track next year of just how fast the fair comes upon us every August.

Time flies.

This Struck Me . . . .

"The Truth Is What You Make It."

I was watching an episode of "The Resident" on Netflix yesterday.  One of the characters was in the midst of a public relations nightmare.

His PR consultant came out with the statement as a way to deal with his troubles.  I immediately thought those words could serve as a mantra for the times in which we are living.

The thought made me sad.

In my mind, truth is like a trusted friend who never wavers.

Some aspects of life like truth and trusted friends should be absolute.

This week has seen an uptick in deer activity around the yard.

We hadn't seen them for a while, and then one day, we saw two different groups pass through, headed for somewhere.

It doesn't bother me to see them reappear because I have picked almost all the blueberries and have removed the netting.

If the Bambi's want to eat up the rest of the blueberries, they have my blessing because I have more than enough in the freezer.

My garden produced beautiful lettuce this year.

Although it's starting to go bad, there are still plenty of leaves on the heads for sandwich accessories.

What a thrill it was to visit with Logan Free Conro last evening.

I had her as a student during my last year of teaching in 2001-2002.  She graduated the next year and went on to Georgia Southern University where she played softball.

Logan has continued her love of the sport as a coach in the Post Falls area. Her sister Leah coaches softball at Sandpoint High School.

Fun family and a fun visit.
💚💜💚💙

Yesterday, while out for an afternoon drive, I stopped at Hawkins Point on the Sunnyside Road.  Members of a family were enjoying some jet ski action on the lake.

The group had a Border Collie with them, so, of course, I spent some time talking to the mom.

Winnie, the Collie, warmed up to me enough that she even followed me back to the car.  I also really enjoyed talking to her human mom Laura.

Border Collies not only herd, but they also have a subtle knack for bringing people together.

I understand that Fleetwood Mac is putting out an album celebrating 50 years.

Maybe you've heard this song.

Happy Saturday.
