Twas a restless night for dogs and peeps.
Bill called it a "Two-Dog Night."
I wonder if the full moon caused it.
I was doing just fine, snoozing away until Bridie started barking.
More often than not, she's barking at nothing, especially at night.
Several times I would drop off to sleep only to be awakened by more Bridie barks.
Finally, I decided enough was enough; that was about 12:30 a.m.
Bridie was summoned to her crate.
Bill told me he had taken the dogs out about an hour or so before and that Foster ate grass.
So, I took Foster out and let him eat some more grass.
Happily, Bridie immediately realized that crate time meant quiet time.
But could I get back to sleep?
Heck no.
I thought about pretty much everything in my personal universe and even revisited some mildly concerning stuff before finally falling to sleep one hour before wake-up time.
Before awakening, however, I ran into another frustrating problem.
I was still in bed when two women came to the house.
They told me they had come for my birthday party.
Never mind the fact that it's not my birthday, but it is my friend Chris Moon's. Later, I wondered why they didn't go to her house.
More people kept showing up, and I had not yet taken my shower or put on my clothes.
This was really starting to get to me, worrying about no shower, no clean underwear or other clothes and a bunch of people milling around the place.
I kept trying to sneak away to the bathroom to take my shower and put on my clothes, but more people kept coming, and it seemed impossible and maybe slightly rude to try to escape the crowd.
Then, thank God, I awakened.
I was relieved for two reasons.
First, I had actually gotten another hour of sleep, and secondly, those people showing up way too early were all part of a dream.
I don't know if people are showing up at my friend Chris's house this morning, but, at least, they didn't come here AND Bridie did not bark for the rest of the night.
Bill and I were both fairly weary this morning, and I'm thinking there might be some sleeping dogs lying downstairs.
Bill has just left for a field trip up at Bonners Ferry.
I think it involves a tree farm.
As he went out the door, he said he might spend some time fishing up the Moyie.
When it's fall and Bill heads north, the word "might" is not quite accurate. Bill will spend some time up the Moyie fishing.
The river is his fall favorite.
So, I don't expect to see him until close to dark.
I'll be hanging out and taking a trip to town to support the basketball bake sale at North 40.
I might even go check out today's Farmer's Market.
Having just finished a magazine writing assignment, I feel liberated so will take advantage of the open time slot.
It's looking like another hazy and slightly hot day ahead, but cool and maybe even wet times are coming.
So, we have survived another round of uncomfortable heat and hope that it will be the last for 2025.
Happy Saturday.
