Betcha can see that it's carrot cake.
Betcha can almost taste it too.
I did taste some of it yesterday, and it was divine.
The folks at DiLuna's Restaurant baked the cake for our class reunion committee lunch.
Last month we agreed to continue meeting as often as possible for the simple reason of enjoying each other's company.
During that discussion, when we learned that our friend Ruthann would be celebrating a significant birthday in a few days, we ordered the cake.
As always, it was a fun gathering.
Today, I'll be switching gears and heading off soon to Roxane's where the vets will come to work on teeth.
Lily will have hers filed down (floated), and that should help her with her chewing.
Meanwhile, Bill will be heading off to Colburn with his chainsaw.
Last night during one of the wild gusts of wind which blew through here, a tree top broke off and dropped to the ground in between my sisters' house and Willie and Debbie's.
Barbara said it was a lucky fall because there were so many things like cars and houses that it could have hit, but it missed every one of those items.
Bill will cut it up, and it will be hauled away.
Ironically, tonight is supposed be the "severe" weather with a big wind storm and chances of flooding.
Our weather events have been interesting lately. Wonder when winter is coming.
Ruthann, on the right, will turn 80 in a few days, so we decided to help her celebrate yesterday at DiLuna's.
Sharon, on the left, has already hit the milestone.
In the midst of all this pre-Christmas joy, we have yet another appliance about to bite the dust.
After replacing the dryer about a month ago, the washer decided it was its turn to act up.
Over the last few days, it's been making noises and taking about two hours to complete a cycle.
We're figuring that since the washer has been serving us for nearly 20 years, it's not worth repairing and time for a new one.
In addition to appliances, we've discovered that our Christmas tree lights are rather temperamental. Bill fixed the faulty string of lights yesterday, so I happily put it back on the tree.
The lighting balance was beautiful until some time during "Jeopardy" when all the lights suddenly went off.
No outbursts from me this time but definitely a sigh. I removed the once faulty but fixed string, and then the rest worked.
This morning when I plugged in the lights, none of them worked. Still no outbursts but may a couple of disgusted groans. I went about my business and took the dogs out.
Upon my return to the house, I saw lights twinkling from the Christmas tree.
"What did you do to get the lights to work?" I asked Bill.
"Plugged them in," he said.
Well, that's a mystery because I had plugged them into both outlets with no luck.
So, it's become a "when you least expect it" situation with the tree lights.
Adding to the fun, I've been having zipper problems this week.
Try as I might, I could not get my warm, waterproof coat zipped the other day. So, it's been sitting idle until I could take it to have the zipper replaced.
Yesterday, while wearing my other heavy coat, which was zipped up to my neck, I looked down to see the rest of the zipper area wide open.
"Oh, fun," I thought. "This will be challenging trying to get this coat off."
While pondering that situation, I tinkered a bit with some pliers on the other coat's zipper.
Then it was time to remove the coat I was wearing.
Fortunately, with a little maneuvering, the zipper cooperated and did move downward about halfway, allowing me to remove the coat.
Then, I put on the original coat, reached down to zip, and, by golly, the zipper worked.
It has done so again this morning, giving me a little joy. But while reflecting on those intermittent Christmas tree lights, I'm thinking my zipper may try the same "I will work; I will not work" shenanigans, so I'll have to have a plan.
For now, my plan would have everything in our world start working again, but at this time, that seems to be wishful thinking.
In the meantime, we'll do our best to concentrate on the joys of Christmas, and if those colored lights on the tree would just keep working, that would help.
Time to go see a vet and the horse's mouth.
Happy Tuesday.
