It was almost a flawless holiday weekend--perfect weather, fun with family and friends, wonderful food and great fireworks, but the one flaw led to one sleepless night of worry when Todd, the Wonder Dog pushed open the screen door and disappeared into the night. He did not like the fireworks and set off for someplace to avoid them. We learned at 10:30 yesterday morning that the Donahue home on Selkirk Road provided what Todd considered a safe haven. The weekend involved two barbecues: one somewhat intimate with Mother, Barbara, Laurie, Bill and me. Mother enjoyed a ride around the place in the 4-wheeler, and Bill enjoyed showing off his rails from Lovestead timber harvests. The other barbecue was a bit more raucous but still pretty tame by most folks' standards. Willie, Debbie and their friends came over and hosted the baby-back rib dinner at the Lovestead. Thanks, Dustin and Leslie for the fine Dutch-oven ribs. Some of last night's group joined the Lodgepole Society, and all of the group enjoyed a fabulous fireworks show complemented by music from the Capitol Fourth of July celebration on the TV. I'm sure everyone involved will be enjoying the many wonderful and some scary memories of this year's nation's birthday party for some time. | | | | |
