October Birthday Celebrations
This is the time of the year when we in the family get a little nostalgic as we mark three birthdays in three days.
We haven't been noting one quite so long as the others, but our nephew Sefo is no less important. Sefo celebrated his ?? yesterday. I know it's near or close to 40, and our niece Laura, his wife, will surely comment on the blog and let me know.
Sefo came into our family a few years back when he married Laura in his native Samoa. He and Laura are parents of the triplets, whom I often feature on the blog. Sefo is a good father, a phenomenal worker, a talented musician and a very thoughtful, kind human being.
Plus, he sure does know how to cook, especially at the grill.
We all love Sefo, and we hope he had a wonderful day yesterday.
Today, we celebrate a milestone in our youngest sibling's life. Our brother Jim is now 50. His birth on the night of Oct. 18, 1963, was significant in both family and Sandpoint history.
He was delivered by Dr. Wilbur Hayden around halftime of the Sandpoint-Lewiston football game. Dr. Hayden wanted to attend the game, but Jim's impending arrival meant "listening" to the game on KSPT radio at Bonner General Hospital rather than watching it at Memorial Field.
Jim's older brother Kevin was playing in that game at the time. If memory serves me correctly, Sandpoint won 9-7, thanks to a safety. That season, 50 years ago, was the very last time Sandpoint went undefeated in football.
So, of course we all remember the victory that night and the addition of a little brother to our family.
Jim is an architect, a hang-gliding aficionado, an artist/cartoonist and a well-read intellectual. To say he's talented would be an understatement.
And, he's just reached the half century mark, so I'm sure he's just getting all those talents honed. We wish him a happy birthday and many wonderful, creative years ahead.
A few minutes ago, I read on Facebook, "New York, here I come."
That's an "Annie Love/Mia Wallace" quote.
After wrapping up a three-day geocaching marathon in the Nevada desert along the Extra Terrestrial highway, Annie has spent two nights at home in Seattle and will be flying out to the Big Apple today.
She wants to celebrate her 35th birthday in New York City tomorrow. So, off she goes for yet another adventure in a life, filled with travels around the world and the United States.
I was telling her this past week that the first time I visited New York was during my 35th year also.
Later, I realized that visit was just a week earlier in October than Annie's visit. My friend Chris Moon and I watched the Columbus Day parade while racing to every possible famous spot we could pack in during a one-day blitz of the city.
Annie will have a weekend and then once again return to Seattle, with a very special birthday celebration to remember in her bag filled with nostalgia.
So, yes, it's a festive time, and we're happy to remember all three of our family members as they celebrate their special days.
I'll simply end today's post with an all-inclusive HAPPY BIRTHDAY and, of course, a Happy Friday on this gorgeous October day.
