Old "Homer" Week and Such . . .
Well, the menfolk have returned from their fishing adventure on the St. Joe. They rolled into town about 5 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
Bill had told me 7 p.m. ETA when he left Sunday, so with their earlier than expected arrival home, the womenfolk were still out playing.
Susie and my sisters and I were enjoying the refreshing lake water at Sunnyside when we received a text message revealing "They're home" from Debbie who, along with Alicia and little Emma, was on her way from work to the swimming area.
When Susie and I arrived back at the house, Bill was catching up on the local news in the papers. We had plenty of stories to share with him, and he had lots to tell about his experience.
Our day yesterday was filled with "small world" oriented moments. While enjoying lunch with Susie and Debbie at Panhandle State Bank business center, I saw a man walk by, took a chance and yelled out his name, "Serve!"
Luckily, for me it WAS Serve Wilson, our former assistant superintendent. I motioned for him to come over to meet my visitor.
Serve did meet my visitor, Susie, and he knew who she was. Upon hearing the name "Serve," Susie pretty much knew this was a name out of her past.
Seems the two worked for the school district in Homer, Alaska, a couple of decades ago. They exchanged a few stories of their experiences and brought of names of folks with whom they both worked.
Later, while reconnecting with her classmate Marilyn Dalby Sabella, the Homer connection came up again as the two talked about yet another Homer connection that involved people they knew.
We enjoyed a visit with my retired teaching friends Edna and Barb. We also spent time at Coldwater Creek, where Susie bought a blouse, and later, headed to the lake where Susie said she was in "Heaven."
She came to Sandpoint with swimming on her mind, and the lake did not disappoint yesterday, nor did the great sandwiches and soup at Spuds Restaurant.
Lexi DeMers was nice enough to take our group picture. We came home and enjoyed a strawberry sundae with berries freshly picked from the patch IN the dark.
Today our fun times end as Susie heads back to Missoula for another visit with her dad. It's been a great time, playing tourist and catching up on where life has taken us and where we think our paths may be headed.
Old friends----what a gift!
Happy Thursday.
