Saturday Slight

From Nancy Meyer (Meyer's Sport Tees) on her Facebook wall yesterday:

Good Morning Everyone. We know I don't post much but I thought I'd better get the news out myself since it's now official. I am sort of retiring! Sold our house this fall, and now the store. It is a bittersweet time for me.

The business is being acquired by the owners of the Earle's Embroidery business. Peter and Jackie Gillis will be merging them and be moving closer to downtown after Christmas.

Watch for exciting things to happen as their new business grows. They will be working with all my clients, accounts, friends, and organizations to make the change smooth....heck, they even have Kayla going with them! I will update more as things move along.

It's shout out time!  And, if anyone ever deserved a "shout out," it's Nancy Meyer, who for the past few decades, has supported the athletes of our community by providing team apparel, letter jackets, you name it.

Twould be interesting to know just how many caps, shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, etc. have gone out of Meyer's Sport Tees in the Bonner Mall to be worn proudly by young and old.

Nancy is not just a smart and efficient business woman; she has also been a friend to many over the years.  In addition, our family, like so many has appreciated her because of the employment she has provided for many young people.

Annie worked for Nancy during her high school years, and I think I could feel comfortable in saying that Nancy has served as one of the special role models in Annie's life.

The photo above shows Nancy this past summer working at an activity very close to her heart:  Celebrate Life.  Nancy's daughter-in-law Jenny inspired the annual activity which raises thousands of dollars for local cancer patients and their families.

In Jenny's absence, her families have moved on to keep her spirit and memory alive through Celebrate Life, and Nancy is always there, working diligently to do her part to see that the annual fun run/walk across the lake goes smoothly each year.

Thank you, Nancy Meyer, for all you've done for so many in this community and for your continued friendship.

We wish you well as you embark on a well-deserved retirement.  We have appreciated you so much.

Below, you'll see a publication that came out in Oregon's "Duck" ville this morning.  I know a few people who really love their Oregon Ducks, probably as much as we love the ZAGS.  In fact, I know one who doubles between the ZAGS and the Ducks.

So, Janet, hats off to you and the Ducks who have earned their way into the NCAA football playoffs, and I've heard a time or two that their quarterback might just take the Heismann Trophy home this year.

I included the picture of the publication because our dear friend Chris Pietsch from Sandpoint took the photos at last night's Ducks' (ranked 3rd) victory over Arizona (ranked 8th).

Yesterday was Chris' birthday, and I understand his friends saw that he had a nice celebration before he took to the field with his camera equipment and captured these neat shots.

Nice job, Chris.  Of course, Ducks' success spells more fun for Chris as he chronicles the team's upcoming contests leading toward a potential National Championship.

And, speaking of Arizona, seems the topic will come up again this afternoon at 2:15 p.m. PST on ESPN.   We're all thinking this will be the biggest game of the year for the ZAGS and another match-up between two top Ten teams.

Gonzaga received a No. 9 ranking this past week, while Arizona was ranked 3rd in the NCAA poll.

Here's hoping for the best and that when it's all over the ZAGS move up a notch or two.

Finally, congratulations to the Sandpoint High Girls' basketball team who won their first game at this year's Pendleton tournament.  Good luck today, Bulldogs!

GO ZAGS!  Happy Saturday.
