I spent a lot of time on a ladder yesterday along with some bending over time. After the first real freeze in these parts, it seemed wise to do some picking and storing. I grinned too.
So, I picked plums off and on throughout the day and cleared a bunch of veggies from the garden.
Those red plums in that photo below: Multiply that box times at least four. And, note that many have already gone into jelly and two big containers went to my hairdresser.
And, there's jelly juice waiting for me to go to town for some more sugar. I gave away a jar of the jelly a week or so ago and received a nice note from Joanne that Tom really liked the jelly.
Only problem: the jar wasn't big enough. So, Tom had a couple more jars sitting on his deck by that afternoon. I'm figuring if Tom liked it that well, I'd better get a good supply made, and, believe me, I've got the plums to do it.
It's about time to start picking some green tomatoes. We've had a glut of red 'maters and are still enjoying their sweet juicy flavor.
The Walla Walla sweets are beautiful this year, and I'm thinking some might get diced up into tomato sauce and thrown in the freezer.
The tater crop is not that great, but the potatoes do taste good, so we'll enjoy them as long as they last. Bill always dices them up and fries them to go with his other breakfast goodies.
And, it looks like we'll just have a few more lovely cukes to enjoy.
We've been blessed this year with several veggies and not so much with others----thanks to those darlings you see pictured once again this morning (below).
They're getting bolder and bolder and spend part of their days up in the yard or just outside the fences, once the dogs bark at them. Yesterday I wanted photos so I put the dogs in the house.
The bunch of them hung around for a while with Mom always watching. Eventually they made their way off to the neighbors next door.
Today I'm really surprised to see blue sky. We were supposed to have rain overnight but not a drop. At this point, I'm not complaining because the unexpected nice weather means I might have time to get on a horse today.
Still haven't done so, and the itch to climb aboard is there. A friend is coming over to massage Lily and Lefty as part of a class she's taking. So, maybe today which ever one is not getting a rubdown might get a saddle and bridle instead.
Almost for sure we'll be riding this weekend, maybe at the Wyman Game Refuge at Naples. Annie is coming home tomorrow afternoon, and she seems game for a trail ride, as do my sisters. Hope it all works out.
For now, that's all on this lovely Thursday. A great day to all.
