Bill and I have been walking through our woods two or three times a day lately. During yesterday morning's walk, after a night of blustery wind and rain, I glanced back to see a dramatic sky and a beautifully crisp and clean landscape.
Of course, the camera came out.
The entire day offered yet another magical autumn experience.
In fact, the two hours or so of peeling apples, putting together another fresh apple pie and canning a nice batch of applesauce only added a tasty touch to the autumn mix and to the winter goodie supply.
I call my latest addition to the ongoing canning project the "Seahawks Loss Applesauce."
Actually, the only real disappointment of that segment of the day came at the very end of my session of peeling, cooking and smiling because the 'Hawks had it in the bag---or so it seemed. Darn those Bengals!
During the day both Lily and Lefty got some barbershop attention with whiskers and bridle paths clipped. And, then came the fun for me.
I saddled up Lily, and off we went up and down the road at a leisurely pace without too many cares in the world, just good time together and a sense of satisfaction for me that Lily has made it to this "ol' reliable" stage.
Heck, she didn't even complain too much while I visited with Haley who came driving by.
Haley is a former student from down the road who had come down from Alaska to photograph a wedding (same wedding the Rogers sisters from yesterday's blog) attended.
It's always a treat to visit with Haley---definitely another of the many wonderful students who have struck out on their own and have established themselves in their chosen professions.
Haley is one phenomenal photographer. In fact, you can check out her work at http://haleysierraphotography.com/
While I was riding up and down the road and through the woods, Bill was spending his afternoon bucking up a couple of tree tops from the Meserve Preserve that snapped off during Saturday evening's wind storm.
Fortunately, the cottonwood top was just short enough to barely miss the power line which runs along the west side of South Center Valley Road.
I've added another photo at the bottom, taken by a photographer for a story in the Malaysian publication FourFourTwo.
That's Fritz Schmid, father of Laura aka Swiss Miss, the exchange student who stayed with Willie and Debbie last year.
Fritz has been serving as the technical director of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) since 2014. These days Fritz, Swiss Miss and her mom Caroline all live in Kuala Lampur. Swiss Miss is completing her senior year of high school in Malaysia.
Check out the link, and enjoy the story.
Happy Monday.
