Saturday in Chi-Town
It doesn't take long to pick up the lingo or the twang. Yes, after a day of flying from Spokane to Las Vegas (won $23 at a slot), we're in "Chi-Town" aka ChicAAAAgo.
Bill is still sleeping. It's oh-dark-thirty in Sandpoint, but two hours later here. A busy day ahead, so this will be brief AND a special note---my postings may be intermittent the next couple of days because of a schedule packed from dawn 'til dusk.
Thanks for your patience if they don't show up on time or if I miss a day.
So far, we have walked the streets of downtown through some wet and humid August temps and rain---all in search of a Chicago pizza, which we did find at Geno's East Pizzeria not too far from our hotel. Deep dish, yummy meat pizza with great crust along with spinach and mozzerella cheese sticks. We topped off the evening with tasty beignet balls.
All was worth the walk in the rain past some of downtown Chicago's famous buildings, including the John Hancock, which is right across the street from our hotel. We also received passionate pizza advice from a pair of Chicago's finest.
The friendly, neighborhood police presence was noticeable on every block as we walked through the pouring rain. We thanked them, and they seemed to really appreciate our gratitude for their presence and good eatin' advice.
Throughout last evening we gathered with the extended family members, started some good visiting and are looking forward to a day of sight seeing and extensive family activities, including the yacht ride on Lake Michigan.
Not much time for photos but should be plenty to choose from tomorrow. It's a festive and fun atmosphere so far and should be a great day ahead with no rain.
Chicago's a beautiful town. We're looking forward to getting to know it and our family members a lot better as the day goes on.
Happy Saturday.
