Good Morning, All.
Liam here. My mom is being lazy this morning, so she told me to get upstairs and do the blog while she drinks her latte and reads the newspaper. My dad is down at the church helping feed the visiting bikers who are headed on their way today.
I guess I'm supposed to tell about my experiences of late.
I haven't done this blogging very much, so I hope you'll go easy on me. I know Border Collies are supposed to be really smart, but we're so busy chasing squirrels, jumping for balls, tormenting Festus, the cat and chewing on coffee cans that we don't have much time to sit in front of a computer.
Anyway, life is pretty good for me these days. I have been going to school. My parents want me to learn how to jump around like horses do and do a bunch of other tricks. You know how those people are.
I have a feeling my mom has been watching way too much of that "America's Got Talent" show, so she figures that if I learn some tricks, we can go on the show and win a million dollars.
Don't know if I really want to do Vegas, though, so maybe I'll hold back on the learning stuff. I do, however, like the idea she mentioned one day while I was pretending to snooze on the love seat next to her and she was watching TV.
Flo came on----ya know that lady who does the Progressive Insurance commercials? Well, Mom said out loud that maybe Progressive could use a Border Collie star to go along with Flo.
Since Border Collies seem to show up in many of the TV commercials, even the ones about taking pharmaceuticals and warning about 14,000 ways those drugs could kill you.
Even those have Border Collies hanging out in the background, just doing what Border Collies do.
I think my folks figure that since they have a young Border Collie, they could get rich off from me.
So, they signed me up for agility training.
We have a small class. There's Ben, the Border Collie and Finn, the Golden Retriever. Finn belongs to the teacher, and he gets to demonstrate what we're supposed to do.
He smiles and almost giggles out loud whenever Lindsay lets him show off.
Even Lindsay says Finn is a klutz (don't tell Finn I said that). Finn is not the most graceful dog that ever went over a jump because he's SO big compared to Ben and me. Still, Finn loves acting as teacher's assistant, and we both like him a lot.
I can't say so much about Ben and me when we first show up for class though. We've had a couple of scuffles and have gotten in trouble for "improper" greetings. I heard my mom say yesterday that I started it all.
I can't explain this except that maybe I'm a little nervous, but I will tell you that once we get told that we are "bad boys," we work really, really hard to be "good dogs" for the rest of the class.
Yesterday was really fun especially because Lindsay put the chickens away so we couldn't see them.
We showed off how well we've mastered the jumps and the "weave." It's a bunch of sticks stuck in the ground and we have to weave our way from one point to another. We're getting pretty good at that.
Later, we "walked the plank," literally. And, then we had to jump and walk the plank and then jump again. I thought that was really fun, but Ben got a little confused at times.
It was the other way around, though, when we moved on to the teeter totter.
Ben definitely was the teeter totter star while I got kinda scared, but after a couple of times, I figured it out and figure that next time I should do okay.
Next week we're going to learn the rest of the obstacles, and the last week of school we'll be going through the whole course. Even if I don't make it into a commercial with Flo, I think this agility stuff has been a lot of fun.
By the way, my mom went around and took a bunch of pictures while I was up here learning to type with my paws.
Do you know how hard it is to learn a keyboard with all those claws and hair? It's good that I give myself manicures every so often; otherwise, I'd never succeed at this.
Not easy, but I'm managing, and maybe I'll write again sometime. Just in case, you haven't figured it out, I like agility a lot more than blogging.
Check out the photos below. She went a little crazy with her camera this morning while she was outside.
Been fun talkin' to you.
Liam
P.S. My mom made me write one more thing: she says that since my teacher is Lindsay Feist that it might be nice if I told everyone about Lindsay's relative Chris Feist, who this very morning is helping his wife Abby open Copper Moose Coffee Co. for the first time.
It's located next to Hoot Owl, and I think it's been open since 6 a.m.
Mom said that Chris said that they serve Paradise Valley Coffee and breakfast stuff prepared by the Hoot Owl.
Chris and Abby Miller Feist moved home from Texas to be close to their families, and this coffee house has been Abby's dream. They're open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mom also informed me that Chris grew up just down the road from where our family lived on Great Northern Road for 30 years. She has even known him since the day he was born and he was in her English class during her last year of teaching.
She also bragged about him and told me Chris was a State Champion wrestler and was really, really good.
I think that information was meant as a hint for me to do well at my sport.
Anyway, Mom sez it would be nice if people drive out there to Ponderay and try some of Chris and Abby's goodies.
That's all.
