Thursday This and That

It's less than the best this morning. I'm posting from my rather slow laptop while my desktop computer is in update mode for Windows 10.  It seems that Windows 10 performs these actions whenever it feels like it with no advanced notice.

And, when it does, the process takes a long time.  I can remember a day in the pre-Windows 10 when we could set a time for our updates to happen but haven't yet found the means with this operating system.

Suggestions are welcome.

Anyway, it's a bit of a transition day today.  Liam finishes up his agility school this afternoon. Annie arrives back in Seattle after her two week trip to Europe, and they predict that the smoky air may go away this evening.

This morning's air seemed like the worst yet:  very bleak and gloomy but pleasantly cool.

It's is feeling a bit like fall, since the smoke has kept the temperatures down in the afternoons and evenings.  This morning there's both the feel and the sound of a changing season.

I can clearly hear the sound outside my window.

In fact, the constant noise had going pretty steady for two days.  Taylors, across the road, weaned their calves the day before yesterday.

And, those calves do miss their mommies!

I just enjoyed another aspect of summer moving into fall:  the morning announcements at Sandpoint High School, produced by Willie's Cedar Post class.

It was a bit strange to hear the students announce that seniors need to get their pictures turned into Kevin Hutchens for the yearbook.  For 27 years, they turned those photos into Miss Tibbs.

I'm sure she's not missing that headache.  Yesterday, the second day of school, I went to the Colburn ranch to see Barbara and Laurie working with their new equine students, along with their friend Roxzene.

As my sisters did some grooming, the young ones had their lead ropes wrapped around the metal fence but not tied.  They have not had the experience of being tied except for in the horse trailer where they couldn't go anywhere if they wanted.

Both horses seemed to be enjoying their primping sessions.

Later, we all went to lunch at Pack River General Store, where Arlene's son Alex has come to join his mom in the kitchen after working as chef in a Coeur d'Alene restaurant.  I'm told they are staying with several of the favorite dishes but adding a few new items to the menu.

My piece of apple pie (a quarter of a pie) for a little over $3 was delightful, but I did save half of the quarter of pie for Bill to finish off at home.

Always wonderful food at Pack River General Store as well as a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.

Guess that's about it on this morning of subpar computer offerings.  My desktop computer, after half an hour, says it's completed 25 percent of the updates, so it will be a while before it's usable.

Happy Thursday.

We who run Linux operating systems have systems that only do what we tell 'em to do....no mess, no fuss! :-)
