Country "Seens, Neighborhood Movie Sets and New Wallpaper
First off, I must provide an important correction to some information posted about a photo in yesterday's blog.
My sisters showed up in my driveway about 8:30 yesterday, shortly after I had published my blog posting.
My immediate assumption was that something must be terribly wrong at their place, but after seeing smiles on their faces as they stepped out of their car, that worry was short-lived.
Barbara announced to me that she had just seen my blog and felt an urgency to get in the car and come over to our house.
Turns out, according to Barbara's research, the photo of "currants" yesterday was really a toxic weed called "nightshade."
Over the years, we've heard stories about horses dying after ingesting night shade, so, as you can imagine, the plants were quickly ripped from the ground and put in a garbage bag for disposal.
According to the research, horses usually avoid the weed in their pastures, but during drought conditions may resort to eating it.
Thanks to Barbara for alerting me to what could have led to some deadly consequences. Sometimes, posting on this blog can be very helpful, even to the writer.
So, the bottom line, I probably won't be posting pictures of bright red jelly from currants harvested here at the Lovestead.
And, hopefully folks reading this who live on farms with animals might want to do some checking around their pastures and get rid of that nasty weed which does have berries that do look a lot like currants.
During my sisters' brief visit yesterday morning, they asked what was going on down the road at the farm on the corner. They described a large assortment of vehicles---trucks, motor homes, an ambulance and other cars---packed tightly into the neighbors' yard.
I had seen this same sight at that same place within the past two weeks and had, at the time, wondered if the neighbors were holding some kind of special sale.
So, it seemed really odd that the same situation was occurring once again, especially relatively early in the morning on a week day.
We even speculated from our observations that maybe it might be a prepper/survivalist type affair. Later, Bill and I drove by but still had no clues what was going on, except that people were carrying stuff out into the pastures this time.
Well, we weren't too far off in our assumption about the survivalists.
Later, I saw photos posted on the neighbor's Facebook page, indicating that part of the scene was just that: a scene for a movie! An upcoming movie called Radioflash has been filmed in some settings around the area, including along the highway out by Hope.
The plot for the 2018 release deals with highly-wired characters coping with life after electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) attack wipes out the entire power grid in America. So, there's definitely a need for survival in the story line, and our neighborhood has provided some of the survival setting.
Should be fun to see this movie next year, that is if we don't have any EMP attacks beforehand.
On a more positive pulse, I now have my annual supply of ZAGS posters which will be distributed over the next few days to the usual friends and family.
Although the women's team posters were not yet available when I dropped by McArthey Athletic Complex yesterday, the receptionist said she'd send me a batch in the mail next week.
Lady ZAGS have their version of Kraziness in the Kennel this weekend where fans can come and join in on the fun for free.
At least two of the posters in my pile will add to the wallpaper decor here at the Love house. I'm figuring by the time I die this house could turn into a ZAGS museum.
Fun to have the posters and to start thinking about the family ZAGS get togethers, which now are just around the corner. AND, of course, the calories that go with these functions add to the excitement and the winter pounds.
Today is another "Liam Lesson" day. Since Bill has never had an opportunity to see Liam at work as a sheepherding dog, and because my friend Dorothy wanted to have another lesson for her Ben, we'll be heading down to Norm Close's establishment where he'll put the two pups to work in separate sessions.
Should be fun.
The photos today, 'cept for the ZAGS poster, are simply sights I saw in my travels yesterday.
Enjoy.
Happy Wednesday.
