Dog Beach on the Pack
Our friend Nancy made the mistake of showing us her stretch of the Pack River when we went to visit her place this past weekend.
The grandpuppies spent most of Sunday on the Pack River at Duane and Marilyn Ward's cabin.
The sun was hot yesterday. The temperature had climbed the highest for the year.
Remembering our visit to Nancy's and that stretch of river, Debbie wondered if I'd like to join her and the grandpups for another Pack River experience.
So, we loaded up Brooke, Todd, Joe and Liam and headed up to Nancy's last night. When her dogs, Cooper and Harley, came to greet us, we worried about a potential dog fight.
Just a bunch of careful sniffing, that's all.
Then, six canine friends followed us with our chairs to Nancy's little piece of Heaven.
We set our lawn chairs in the river and sat for about an hour as doggies enjoyed a dog-day afternoon Heaven of their own.
During our time there, a helicopter with a water bucket dangling in the air flew over, probably coming from one of the fires burning in the Selkirks.
I read this morning of one fire at the Priest River Experimental Forest and another up Smith Creek north of Lion's Head.
Last night was Liam's first time for full-fledged swimming. He had crossed some river water once up at Twin Rivers Campground to go greet Bill who was fishing at the time.
No swimming, though, until last night. Liam doesn't seem to be quite as committed as Brooke, Todd and Joe, who have spent a good portion of their recreational lives in some body of water.
Liam was more content to trot along and do some serious sniffing on the ground along the shoreline.
Nancy says her two pups aren't exactly water lovers, but they will participate if she's out there with them.
Our evening outing on the Pack River turned out to be both relaxing and refreshing as there wasn't much of a need for a whole lot of full-fledged dog sitting.
They are all well behaved and much more civilized than a lot of folks I see on TV at political rallies. In fact, I wonder if people took the time to sniff each other when they get together in big crowds, they could act nicer to each other.
It was great to come home refreshed and knowing that we had found a pleasant way to survive the hottest day of the year.
Happy Wednesday.
