Joe Tajan aka JoJo Baker crying an auction just down South Center Valley Road a few years ago. |

There's a new show on Facebook with a face familiar to a lot of us here in North Idaho.
Locals may know him as that Sunday morning radio personality with the soothing Southern voice.
Or, locals may have seen him as a dynamic auctioneer crying for bids at farm sales or community fundraisers.
I know him as the father of one of my former students, Crosby, who has since gone into the teaching profession and the father of one of my son's classmates, Adam, who's also a local educator.
I interviewed Joe Tajan once for a feature column in Spokesman-Review newspaper, and, as I get to ciphering, I'm thinking that must have been about 20 years ago when he first became a radio phenomenon who played the blues and shared recipes.
RADIO SHOW REALLY COOKS FOR BAKER
The Spokesman-Review (Spokane, WA)

It's Sunday morning in Sandpoint, and Joe Tajan is living out
a dream.
After rising at his Pack River home north of Sandpoint, he heads for town and the local radio station. By 5 a.m. Tajan - now JoJo Baker - begins his five-hour weekly show.
"Good morning, this is official barbecue day - Father's Day, 1997," the soothing, relaxed voice tells KPND-FM listeners. "The weather is sunny and warm ... the wind is barely rolling. So enjoy."
He leads listeners through a blend of blues, R&B and other progressive sounds. Baker particularly enjoys introducing vocalists like female blues artist Rory Block or British blues transplant John Mayall. Mayall is on this summer's Festival at Sandpoint calendar.…
Disclaimer: when you cut and paste into the blogger dashboard, the general format gets all mixed up. So bear with the narrow text block below.
The article in its entirety can be found in the Spokesman-Review archives and probably on one of my old computers where not all files were transferred when I upgraded.
Joe Tajan aka JoJo Baker is about as close to my vintage as they come. I think he may be a week older than I.
He also has deep South roots from "Luzianna," just like someone else I know really well.
Over the years, Joe and I have been good friends since, a lot of times, we run in the same circles.
I also kinda like to think we share some of the same outlooks on life and people and the world around us----generally loving them all and embracing whatever they have to offer.
Once more I'm enjoying the opportunity of proudly proclaiming that I'm a fan of JoJo Baker cuz he's in the embryonic stages of developing a new format for sharing his laid-back, peaceful and appreciative view on life in general and best yet, that soothing, comfortable voice.
Better yet, the world can now sign in to JoJo's fan club, simply by clicking on the link when they see his face behind a microphone and sometimes in front of a colorful Mexican serape.
Jo Jo has himself a podcast ON FACEBOOK. I've seen him a couple of times with his cherished granddaughter, who could be a star herself. One time when I clicked in while he was running the podcast live, Joe knew it.
All the sudden I heard my name uttered like only JoJo could do. At first, I started looking around the room to see if a secret camera was recording my every move.
Then, I realized that I had already clicked "like" as Joe was visiting with that adorable little lady next to him.
This week I saw Joe at Yoke's. We talked about his plans for the podcast. They are still clearly unfolding, but I must tell you that the link above with his elderly friend Bob Martin from Naples provides a perfect and entertaining sample of what's to come.
JoJo's done a few podcasts already (live and then available for watching if ya just don't happen to tune in on time). In fact, that's how I watched the one above, which was recorded sometime yesterday.
I'm also seeing he tunes in more than once a day, based on his activities yesterday.
When we talked at the grocery store parking lot, I suggested to JoJo that when he gets his act together and knows pretty much what he's gonna be doing and how often, etc., to let me know, and I'd promote his new venture on my blog.
The beauty, however, with JoJo is that I don't think he ever really knows exactly what's comin' next.
He just does his thing with spontaneity and simplicity and does it oh so well.
So, with no more discussion, if you're on Facebook, I invite you to click on the link above, sit back and enjoy JoJo.
Good things are cookin' in this radio chef's mind, and the world awaits.
Congrats, JoJo. Proud to be your friend.
The world needs a few more JoJo's to remind us of the priceless simple gifts of life.
Happy Saturday to all.
