First, the halftime entertainment when Sandpoint hosted Lakeland last night at Les Rogers Gym.
When you come to play basketball with your bow tie, it's serious stuff.
Don't let that bow tie and the white dress shirt fool you.
This young man has a flair for round ball.
Last night, the game of pick up ball during the half, he squared off against a worthy opponent.
She gave him all the defense she could muster as he controlled that ball, weaving in and out of her blocking efforts.
I saw him put in a beautiful shot too.
Then, however, he may have tripped and gone down.
It was okay.
He was happy no matter what.
Now, let's talk about a magnificent comeback for the Bulldogs.
Only scored TWO points in the first quarter. Those were free throws.
Down 11 in the second half.
Those young women ramped up their determination, skills and teamwork, which have improved dramatically over the season.
In the next few minutes, the Bulldogs put together a victory for them and the best ending of the season for all who cheered them on in the stands.
As the new sports editor for the local paper tweeted, ". . . two rivals, a share of the league title on the line, an 11-point comeback . . . games like this are why I do this for a living."
Enough said.
The game was that good.
Players were proud.
Fans, especially moms and dads were proud, including Ma and Pa Love.
Great job, Bulldogs and coaches!
WE ARE SANDPOINT, COULDN'T BE ANY PROUDER.
Maybe some silent "Hail Mary's" from Coach Ward and Coach Love as the clock ticked toward the final buzzer.
