It's another day of snow.
On this last day of the snowy, cold month of February 2019, I felt a real need for color.
So, I just went through my photo library and picked out some memories---almost all with hope-filled reminders of the colorful times of year.
Sometimes those reminders are downright nice and therapeutic as we slog along through this predicted "warmer, wetter" winter.
And, since it's Throwback Thursday, I feel no guilt about going to the archives.
Also, someone down at the museum must have sensed that I needed some help today, so they posted a news item in today's local paper from 50 years ago when our family and friends started a new 4-H Club in Bonner County.
I don't know if it was an oversight, but one of the 5 W's and 1 H is missing.
The club name: Schweitzer Valley Dwellers.
My personal 4-H history includes the Mountain View ABC's (home ec with Mrs. Hudon, Mrs. Nikkola and Mrs. Delamarter), Mountain View Dudes and the Schweitzer Valley Dwellers.
Ironically, some of my other selections for today's post include some folks associated with another club, which has been around for eternity: the Gold n' Grouse 4-H Club.
And, more ironically, one of those hot pink Trick or Treaters in the photo below takes my horse Lefty as a project in the Gold n' Grouse 4-H Club.
One of the leaders of Gold n' Grouse is Brian Wood's daughter Krissy. Brian is the one pictured today with the reflective gear on; he was working on fixing up a railroad bed after a derailment a few years ago).
His niece Jody also leads the club as has his mother Virginia. They're the ones with the quilt. A few years ago Virginia crafted and gave a quilt to each of her granddaughters, of which Jody is the oldest.
Jody worked for several years with my younger sister Laurie at Farmin-Stidwell Elementary School.
And, by golly, my sister Laurie is pictured at least three times today with a new pup, in the English riding apparel and probably in the group shot of the Fourth of July Parade riders---Schweitzer Valley Dwellers, of course.
Anywho, it was fun putting this assortment together, and I'll include some captions where necessary. The flower pictures could be any old year, but the important part: they're loaded with color, and that is important on another black and white day here in the Selle Valley.
We do yearn for a weather change any time soon.
Happy Thursday.
GO, ZAGS.
GO, ZAGS.
And, to one of my dearest friends who's gonna soon be signing up for the upcoming first-ever Knee Roller Derby with Bill, I'm wishing you the best.
My brother Jim (kneeling) was in to rockets and anything space related. So, Jim served as the 4-H Club rocketry leader. I do recognize a couple of Gissels and a Berger and maybe some Kenworthy's |
I know this is my sister Laurie on her horse Richie (Rishmah) at a 4-H district horse show in Lewiston. |
Sisters Barbara and Laurie with their sister Australia cattle dogs Jessie and Meggie. Meggie's having a sniff-off with young Foster. |
Ahhh, to roll in green grass. Some day. On a past day, this was grand nephew Jacob. |
Virginia Wood and granddaughter Jody. |
Pretty in Pink: Boston, Terra and mom Tricia. |
My neighbor and old friend Brian Wood |
Miss Kiwi with her coffee can. |
My friend Diane Maurer got us into this one summer. A Dutch oven dinner on a summer night is mighty good. |
Younger brother Jim when Sweet Lou's had a Hope Restaurant. |
Twas Yak Yaks over at Wes and Alicia's place across the fence from us a few years back. Ironically, the original Yak herd came from our folks Upper Place on Great Northern Road. |
Just mailboxes in the fall on the Sunnyside Loop Road. |
Little Foster not long after he moved over the mountains from Seattle to his forever home at the Lovestead. "How old is the puppy?" people will ask when they see Foster. He'll be seven this year. |
For a time, Foster was bigger than at least two other dogs. |
Little did the doggies know that their assistance was leading to a dog run where they would be enclosed. I think Trevor rather enjoyed their "help." |
I've been seeing the annual ads in the paper for Women of Wisdom nominees. These two gals have put in many hours for the program as its leaders over the past few years. That would be Kari and Kathy. |
Just a picture filled with color and reminders that good times are ahead, even opportunities to ride that bike. |

This is the only photo in today's posting which is not a throwback. I took it yesterday while out for a walk along our road. But it has color. |
Twas the first week in March a few years back that I made my first trip to Ireland with Annie.
We met my friend Cass while signing up to go for a ride along the Atlantic Coast beach near Tralee.

This sign appears at the Irish National Stud in Kildare. It's for just in case you didn't know. The other sign is a good reminder too. |
