Heavenly Days in May: TBT

I wanted to purchase two more painted bird houses at the Farmers' Market.

So, yesterday revolved around making sure projects were completed in time to head into town for the market that began at 3:30 p.m.

The area over the new culvert received some landscaping, i.e., a coat of gravel, some top soil and a scattering of grass seed.

Plants were watered, and later, the ongoing fence-painting project received some attention out in the lane.

In between, horses went to pasture, and horses came from pasture and then horses went back to pasture.

During one of those transfers, Liam received some more "guidance" on going with me to move horses.

Slowly but surely, he is learning to stay away from those hind feet.  He has permission to run big circles around the horses, so he can feed his herding appetite.

He is also receiving some additional instruction on "down," "lie down," and stay.  Sometimes, those instructions take more time than others to fulfill, but he's getting better.

Liam also met Sonny face-to-face during one of our training sessions.  Sonny certainly knows how to move and to find the highest perch possible to avoid her session of "herding."

On that note, I must report that Sonny is one happy barn cat, especially since horses come in and out during the night to visit with her.  I think they like having a pretty cat around, and she seems quite adept at keeping her distance while visiting with her new friends.

Anyway, it was a busy day, but I did make it to town, only to see that the Farmers' Market is off to a relatively slow start in its afternoon session. I'm sure that will change as more potted plants begin to grow in the greenhouses around the area.

Unfortunately, the bird-house folks apparently don't do the Wednesday night edition, so I'll try to catch them Saturday.

There were about ten vendors on-site yesterday as well as the usual live music in the band shell.

It was a downright lovely day to stroll around and snap a few photos of folks selling stuff and others just enjoying a laid-back, pleasant May afternoon.

It's a pretty time, and a happy, carefree time, and most of us our loving the gift of beautiful May days.

This talented lady named Robyn landscaped the Lovestead a few years back.

Throwback Thursday:  Bill headed out the door early today, as he usually does on one Thursday in May every year.

He drove to Careywood and to the Delay Farms for the 37th Annual Idaho State Forestry Contest. Bill helped organize the contest and has served in some capacity every year since.  I believe he pretty much specializes as emcee these days.

He told me a while back that this year at least 600 students from around North Idaho will be learning and competing in the day of forest-related activities.

It's always a busy and competitive day in the beautiful forest setting, and during its activities run like a well-oiled machine.

So, it seemed appropriate to post a few photos from past forestry contests.

Enjoy!

Happy Thursday.
