I have a scoop this morning.
Boogie Ellis has decommitted to Duke.
This morning I read that Gonzaga is going after Boogie Ellis.
There's both a Sandpoint and an In-N-Out Burger twist to the story.
Regular readers may recall the photo above which I posted while we visited San Diego in February.
One day, Bill and I decided to have an In-N-Out burger and were glad with both the service and the food.
We experienced an added treat when we met Joann who was sitting next to us.
A brief hello turned into a full-fledged visit and, later, a group photo, including Joann and her friend.
During our conversation, after we told Joann we were planning to attend the ZAGS game in San Diego, she told us she didn't know much about basketball.
Nonetheless, she did know that her nephew from San Diego has signed on with some big college team in the south----the ones with the blue uniforms.
When we said, "Duke," she said, "Yes, that's it."
So, she told us her nephew's name.
Boogie Ellis.
I googled him, and, sure enough, he had garnered a few sports headlines because of his talents as a basketball guard.
This morning when I read that Gonzaga was one of ten teams pursuing Boogie, I sent the athletic director an excerpt from my blog, along with the photo above.
I told Mike Roth that if "every little bit counts" in recruiting these stars to be sure and share with Boogie that some folks from Sandpoint knew his Aunt Joann.
Mike simply said, "Thank you."
So, we'll see.
Could be if Boogie decides to come to Gonzaga, Aunt Joann will start learning more about basketball.
In other news, there's not much, except May is moving on and improving. Starting today we won't be freezing quite so much with cold nights and breezy days.
We'll be into the 70s this weekend and for the next several days. That, of course, means a glut on dandelions but also the opportunity to start putting out some posies and some seeds in the ground.
I've been taking advantage of the relatively dry but cold weather in an ongoing fence-painting mission.
Yesterday, after emptying one bucket of white utility paint by applying it to the front barnyard fence, I decided a trip to Hope and an ice cream cone were in order.
So, I invited my sisters along. Lo and behold, the rain returned, so it was kinda dull out that way. Happily, the rain did stop when we got out of the car and went for a pleasant walk on the hillside above the Hope Cemetery.
Even though the scene was a bit dull, it's still pretty darned breath-taking every time we can stand on a perch and look down the main channel of gorgeous Lake Pend Oreille.
Almost 72 years of living here, and I never lose that feeling of exhilaration while enjoying our lake.
After our walk, we went to Ice House Pizzeria and bought our respective scoops of ice cream. Twasn't exactly an ice cream type of day, but my lemon meringue cone hit the spot.
This morning I went for another walk down our road. My outing went from total quiet to a lot of action as folks started driving by on their way to work and one of the two school buses was picking up a "kid."
I still can't figure out why two in a row go down our road for one stop. Nonetheless, it made for some neat morning country scenes.
Tomorrow is the first Saturday in May, and, of course, that means the Kentucky Derby.
Annie sent me a photo from her office yesterday, noting that she and her co-workers are getting into the Derby by making hats.
I looked at hers and saw maybe a mix of "Avengers" and Seattle Sounders.
It will be interesting to see the Derby hat show at our gathering tomorrow.
All in all, early May, when the weather is nice, is one of the more exciting and delightful times of year around here.
Planning to enjoy every aspect while getting that yard and garden work done.
Happy Friday.
