Calm before and after the Storm . . .

In a nutshell . . . .

. . . . it's been an interesting 24 hours of sunny, hot weather, almost instantly turning to hurricane-like winds, downing trees, shutting down power; inflicting drenching rain and causing whole lot of frustrating craziness.

Lots of damage, I'm guessing.

Our power came back on just a while ago after a night-long outage due to a tree falling over the power line just down the road from us.

We heard the transformer blow in the midst of lightning and thunder.

Here at the Lovestead, the top fell out of a tamarack tree in the front yard and at least two cottonwood trees blew down behind the barn---one uprooted.

My greenhouse, which has been bandaged together for the past couple of years, now needs more than bandage.

And, we have a mess.

This storm followed a hot, summer day where young folks from Selle Valley Carden School, along with their teacher Stacy, were enjoying some fishing experiences at a pond off Selle Road.

The kids caught grasshoppers AND a frog for bait.  Their mission:  catch the pan fish in the pond south of the road and return them to their original pond.

Apparently, a dam from one pond broke a while back sending the fish to another pond.

In town, I met a young man who fishes at Sandpoint's Windbag Marina about three times weekly.  He was also catching pan fish, using worms as bait.

I had a delightful time meeting some of the sailors from around the country who have come to Sandpoint to compete in a nationwide sailing regatta, the Thistle Nationals.

More information in link below:

And, along with them came sailing buffs like the Douglasses to see the boats and watch the races.

If the hurricane winds did not blow them away, the sailboats will continue competing through the weekend.

Lots of cleanup, and if this morning's text seems hastily written, it is!

Sometimes outside elements can get in the way.

Happy and calm Wednesday.

Good luck, sailors!

Rick Orchard, of Sandpoint, and two friends from Atlanta are competing in the national sailing competition.

These sailors came across country from Connecticut to compete in this week's Thistle Nationals, as crew members of Rocket Ship and Maid of Ply.

Delightful Douglasses!
