Christmas 2019: A LOVEly Wrap

It was a Christmas like no other, as they all should be.

Yes, there was tradition, remembering the solemn reason for the season, too much good food, sparkling lights, gifts aplenty followed by clean-up, and, best of all, the peeps.

The peeps who gather together always make Christmas truly special, and making connections with the peeps in other homes adds a lovely touch, indeed.

Our Christmas also included delightful and fun touches of quirkiness too.

A new twist for us this year:  in the midst of the living room mess of wrapping paper, boxes, bags and gifts, we sat around with the speaker phone turned on and talked with family members from afar.

We’ll have to incorporate that activity into future Christmas schedules.

Folks from several households also gathered together for a drive to Bonners Ferry, a photo shoot and, of course, a phenomenal Christmas buffet.

This was at the Kootenai River Inn, which includes a casino. After dinner, a few of our party walked into the nonsmoking room and spent a few minutes, hoping to make some cash.

Wouldn’t ya know, Swiss Miss, had a very nice stroke of beginners’ luck on her first try.  I’m told the cash will probably not make it to a Swiss bank.

Instead, the phrase “Old Navy” came up. On this day after an absolutely lovely two days of Christmas cheer, some family members will join even other family members for a trip in to Spokane where Coach Love’s girls basketball team is playing in a tournament.

And, I hear a stop at Old Navy is on the itinerary.

Many thanks to the kids for all the wonderful effort they made both Christmas Eve and yesterday to add a touch of the new with the old traditions of Christmas we have kept alive.

It was truly special from start to finish.

I think even the dogs enjoyed the festivities, ‘cept for when the peeps took over their couches.

Happy Thursday.

My new coffee mug gives me a sense of comfort.

We had a red solo cup toast when Bill brought out some water he had purchased at Dublin Airport last October AFTER going through security.

The toast came after Bill learned that he'll be celebrating his 70th birthday in 2020 back in Ireland with his family.

I predict some fun, some more quirkiness and some lasting family memories.
