Yesterday, Willie's girls varsity basketball team did not win against Lake City.
Still, they won hearts.
In a poignant scene each starter ran the circle to the opposite team and coach, the referees AND to their biggest fan.
Nita Schoonover has been a constant supporter at pretty much every game I've attended since Willie started coaching.
So, it was a wonderful sight to see these players express their appreciation to Nita for her support, both individually and later as a team.
I read a tweet this morning from one who promotes love, Pope Francis.
If we have
no peace in our hearts, how can we think there
will be peace in the world? Let’s try to
remain in the Lord,
and the way to do so is to love, and to love in little
things.
It seemed to me that the scene so many in the cheering section witnessed last night provided a perfect example of what the Pope is saying.
And, so, the score at the end of the game certainly was not truly reflective of the more powerful scene we all witnessed before the game began.
So often that is the case. Those moments don't make headlines in the next day's paper, but they surely remain etched in our memories.
And, they make us proud.
Another example of pride came in the stands last night during each time-out when an accomplished and impressive Sandpoint High School band provided good moments of toe tapping, rhythmic clapping and just plain awe.
Great job, Bulldog band!
Yesterday turned out to be a fairly calm day and a good time to take a walk down our muddy road.
Yup, it's filled with chuck holes, and traffic is moving slowly these days, trying to avoid the myriad of obstacles.
There were "little things" along the way to love, especially our neighborhood mountain scenes.
Dark clouds, happily not filled with rain or snow, came along to create dramatic contrasts with brilliant, white mountaintops.
Truly eye catching, every step of the way.
Yesterday also included a couple of visits with neighbors. It's that time of year when the cooped-up feeling drives a person to check in on others, just to see if they're feeling the same.
Yes, they are, but with those brief moments of visiting come the pleasant and fun distractions of "ain't in awful?" "why do we live here?" and the ever-fulfilling comparison of which part of each person's body aches the most.
Yesterday, knees got the nod, closely followed by a tie between aching backs and bad shoulders.
In all this chatter comes camaraderie and reminders that we're not going this alone, and if we stick together with our grousing and moaning, some day all this will just be another "yesterday."
Yup, those yesterdays are fun in many ways. My most immediate yesterday was actually fun all day long---'cept for a few moments of watching the TV reality.
In short, our "yesterdays" will always be there to dredge up from the back drawers of our mind and to remember those special moments when we spent time to "love on little things."

Now for some neat yesterdays of yesteryears, including a few taken by other photographers of the good ol' days at Schweitzer.
One thing about Schweitzer: on any good day, regardless of how many yesterdays, it's a mighty stunning scene.
Some more Schweitzer Originals, including our great family friend, Jean. |
A fun yesterday in the desert with a star from yesteryear. |
On that desert trip, Annie and I spent some time with our friend Mow. Don't ask me what's going on here. |
A Super Sunday of yesteryear when Bill fixed stuff in his Dutch oven outside. |
Jacob watching the action and enjoying the popcorn. |
Willie and the cousins at a basketball game several yesterdays ago. |
Former student, family friend and Boy Scout James Martin posted this oldie but goodie on Facebook yesterday. Remembrances of fun times when Bill was a scout leader, and Willie was one of his young scouts.Lots of great kids earned their badges in Troop 111. New yesterdays ahead, including another ZAGS Game Day. GO, ZAGS! Happy Thursday. And, do spend some time loving on the little things that make your day. |
