Proud Friday . . . .

Yesterday turned out to be a great day to be a Bulldog fan. Three Bulldog victories for all of us who follow Gonzaga and the Sandpoint Bulldog girls basketball team.

Twasn't easy, though.

A couple of those Bulldog teams made us diehard fans earn our pride and joy after too many moments of sighs, groans and  frustration.

It looks like the Gonzaga women cruised to victory with a big win over Loyola Marymount.

The other two?  Oh my!

Heart stopping for the SHS Bulldogs and downright depressing for an entire half of watching the men's ZAGS.

Happily, though, we are all pleased as punch this morning about the hometown victorious Bulldogs.

I can also report that a different ZAGS men's team came out after the half ready to show why they are No. 2 in the nation.

Bill and I both agreed that we were worn out after the final buzzer sounded around 10 p.m. with the ZAGS finally cruising to a respectable 27th win with one loss.

It was the 18th win for the Lady Bulldogs in this magical year. Their work is cut out for them tonight when they play undefeated (21-zip) Bonneville in the semi finals.

I don't count them out, though, cuz these players have grit and skill AND they are A TEAM, which is all important and which has been the key to their success this year.

GOOD LUCK, SHS BULLDOGS!  You can do it!

On a personal note, it was pretty neat to see the immediate and extended family pride in Willie. I know he appreciates it too.

It looks to me like Jason, the local sports photographer extraordinaire, also captured Debbie and her mom Irene in the background to Willie's right.

In other news, it was Sandpoint High alum day for some of us at Tango yesterday.  Several of our Class of 1965 members gathered for a reunion planning meeting, which also included some envelope stuffing.

It's always fun to get together and especially fun to see "the committee" keep growing in numbers.

Glad to have you aboard, Linda and Karen.

Speaking of community pride, this morning's Bonner County Daily Bee features a story that made me, the teacher, especially proud.

It's about a former student who is opening his third tire store in the area.

He has never had an easy road, but "Wild Bill Mueller," as I used to call him, also has never let adversity or taking responsibility get in the way of following his dreams.

Plus, he's not one bit afraid of hard work. His road to success is truly inspiring.

Bill's story is written by another former student, Darcy Sletager, who is downright gifted as a writer.  Looking forward to seeing more stories in the local paper from Darcy.

Finally, I was killing some time before Willie's game late yesterday afternoon, grabbing shots of Liam and Foster playing, when a gentleman rode by on his bike and said, "Hi."

I thought for a moment that I was supposed to know him and simply couldn't recognize him with sunglasses and hat and all that winter gear.

As I stepped closer, though, he assured me that I did not know him.

Now, I do, and happily so.

Truk moved here last month and lives in the neighborhood.

Turns out he's a farmer and a chef (even with some experience in France) and he loves photography.

Truk also knows fruit trees.

So, we worked a deal where he could come and prune my two apple trees in return for some fruit in the fall.

It may come as no surprise to anyone that, for me, it's always fun meeting new friends, especially when they're new to the neighborhood.

Welcome, Truk.  My trees will probably appreciate your expertise.

It's looking like a gorgeous day ahead.  Happy Friday to all.

                                  GO, BULLDOGS!!!
