Alley Art Feedback, Etc.

After two days of informative and fascinating feedback regarding my posts about old time Sandpoint and the artistic alley, I decided to take a different approach today, letting some of those responses highlight today's post.

All responses were enlightening and fun and maybe even a bit macabre, especially when Sandi Haugse Terry added a tidbit about the old packing plant aka slaughter house on North Division.

Sandi's family of Pastime Cafe/Three Name Lounge fame, owned a pasture in the vicinity of packing plant.  She said her dad Leonard told her that a small stream on that property used to run red from the packing plant.

I'm also including some photos of murals in Valparaiso, Chile, where my brother Mike and his wife Mary visited a few years ago.

They were blown away by the ubiquitous, amazing murals.

Seems like it would be neat for Sandpoint and Valparaiso to start up a city-to-city artistic relationship.

Anyway, it's been fun reading the responses to areas in our community which have been so close to the hearts of so many.

Thanks to all who responded.  I gleaned out a few dealing with the alley and the other subjects touched upon in yesterday's post.

The neat thing about doing this daily project is seeing the joy it sometimes brings to others, and that inspires me.

"The artwork reminds very favorably of the street art that lines nearly every street in the city of Valparaiso, Chile.

It's such a thing there that there are commercial artists for hire to do this stuff. Anywhere that there's a surface, this kind of stuff appears almost instantly. It is truly an art form."

---Mike Brown, Dupont, Wash., formerly Sandpoint

"The Galaxy Art Alley is an ongoing project for high school art students (both SHS and Charter).

It’s been about 5 years since the initial project was initiated by The Sandpoint Arts Commission, then chaired by Carol Deaner. It is pretty magical.❤️

Also, I believe Holly Walker will have some students down there in the spring. You could try contacting her for a photo op."
                                                                  ----Ellie Susnis, Sandpoint

"The picture in the alley that is on the right and is a big circle was  done by my grandson,  Karla's son who just turned 29, an artist in Bellingham, Wa.

He has an art show coming up in the spring in Denver.  Hee makes his living with his artwork."

                                            ---Delores Burnett Campbell, Sandpoint

"You might know this but in Ireland candidates are only allowed to campaign and put posters up for 30 days before an election. I bet they get a kick out of us!"  🍀🇮🇪

                                        ---Kathleen Travers Alderman, Sandpoint

"It was a glorious election season in Ireland! I was incredibly impressed with how focused the electorate became about educating themselves on the issues and the candidates in a short amount of time." ❤️☘️

---Tricia Sullivan, formerly Sandpoint, now Limerick, Ireland

“We won’t find out the results of today’s elections until long after this taping, so, for now, we’ll just congratulate any man who’s around the age of 78. Well done!"

                                         -----James Cordan, Late, Late Show

"From your old buildings in Sandpoint blog yesterday....
This hangs in my daughters home. The only thing I took before new owners many years ago. Painted by Gene Hayes."

----Sue Cove, Lakewood, Colo., formerly Sandpoint

Final Note:  maybe Sue and others will provide a few memories of their association with the Anchor Club.

Twould be fascinating!
