Happy Spring from the dirt roads of Selle, Idaho.
It's not too often that we have "real" spring days on the calendar date for the beginning of the season.
Oh, is it wondrous this year!
I'd say, along with the weather, it's more wondrous than ever because times have changed and outdoor spring activities seem more precious than ever.
In one case, Angie and her daughters Autumn, Amber and Selena came walking past our house.
That was about the same time the grader operator was spiffing up our road. I'm not sure if Scott Wood from Wood's Hauling and Crushing was supervising the road work, but he did drive by AND he seemed quite pleased to have his picture taken.
Twas also fun seeing my neighbors Janice and Mark out doing some yard work, thus beginning annual "My Yard Is Prettier than Your Yard" friendly competition, which has been annually and unofficially declared ever since we moved to the Lovestead almost 14 years ago.
I'm thinking that Janice felt the urgency to get out there after spending some time in Portland and hearing from me that I'd already started working on my shrubs.
More TLC than ever, I told her.
Anyway, it's spring and it feels like spring and I'm betting there's not a person in our valley complaining this morning about having to live here.
We "GET" to live here and are so grateful, especially during these times.
Enjoy the rest of the stories, locally and from around the world.
Happy Thursday, and just cuz I feel the need: GO, ZAGS!
So society’s *real* key workers have just been revealed. Not the bankers. Not the traders. Not the elite hedge fund managers. It’s the nurses. The doctors. The delivery drivers. The carers. The porters. The teachers. The shelf stackers. The check out staff.
Sandpoint High School is working hard to provide all of our students with continued educational opportunities and experiences.
Our plan is to provide distance learning lesson plans delivered using our online Schoology platform. In some cases, packets will be available from our front office by contacting the teacher by email or phone.
It would be best practice for students to check both their Schoology and Google email accounts as well as their Schoology class pages to access their teachers and the work assigned. Making quick contact by email with each teacher will help us decide who does not have internet access.
Teachers will also be checking their phone messages regularly if email or internet is unavailable. We are continuing our current lessons with modifications to fit the situation with the expectation that students will continue to work on each of their classes during this time.
We are also working on plans to extend this type of learning if this situation lasts beyond spring break.

Hats off to Tom Albertson and the crews at the schools during this time of confusion.
Communication is key and I have received emails, text messages and more emails with instructions on what the students should expect when to pick things up and generally just keeping parents informed.
The only thing I can add is parents need to keep their kids at home and not at the beach making Tik Tok videos.
Groups is what spreads this, and if kids are hanging out not practicing good hygiene and social distancing we could very well be stuck in a circle of infection.

The recommendation to stay home is for a reason.

Cousin Rich from Chicago in the back, about to embark on the trip home from his Peace Corps service in Ethiopia. He's hoping the break is temporary. |

~~~A bittersweet TBT~~~
Normally, this morning, I would be rushing through the blog and then hurrying outside, doing my chores as quickly and efficiently.
All that hasty effort would be necessary to get back inside the house, sit on the couch, with the remote in one hand and my copies of brackets sitting on the end table.
Pretty much throughout the day, tinges of guilt and only guilt would move me from the couch while various March Madness games would be going in venues across the nation.
The remote would be busier than I, and on this day, I would be anticipating seeing every single Charles Barkley/Spike Lee commercial for the first time.
One never tires of Charles.
One year, we did not do the couch. That was 2016 when we went to Seattle to watch the first games of the tournament IN PERSON. Of course, the event was all the more exciting with our ZAGS there.
Plus, I enjoyed some nice time visiting with my classmates Rick and Janet, who have yet to find a ZAGS game or sports venue they didn't like.
Good memories from the couch and from Key Arena. Looking forward to many more in the years to come.
Love family at NCAA Tournament/March Madness at Seattle's Key Arena, in 2016, when we watched the ZAGS earn their way to the Elite Eight. |
"The virus, we believe, is politically motivated. We hold our religious rights dear and we are going to assemble no matter what someone says," Rev. Tony Spell of Life Tabernacle Church in Louisiana said after 305 people attended a service this week.
Joe Lara And stop hoarding munitions! Taking care of your neighbors doesn't mean "taking care of your neighbors."
