Neighborhood Scenes

This is Legend.

She belongs to Boston, one of my "Painter Sisters" team who came once again yesterday to brighten up our board fences.

Boston has accomplished a lot with this young horse, which she acquired late last fall.

We are on the cusp of the ultimate beauty of spring, as leaves and blossoms pop out and grass gets greener and greener.

It's a great time to get out of the house, shake off the cobwebs and take a drive around country roads.

Guaranteed that the experience will revive your hope and your senses.

I did just that yesterday afternoon, driving along a railroad side road just north of my sisters' home on HWY 95.

My first step out of the car provided an instant moment or two of joy as I spotted the proud, happy and precision-oriented goose family out enjoying their own little Friday swim in the wetland which extends for about a mile in between the railroad track and the highway.

The little ones had definitely caught on the importance of floating in unison with Mom and Dad.

As I moved down the roadway, I also saw a muskrat swimming in and out of the cattails.

Throughout my brief stay and short walks along the hillside above the extended wetlands, not one of the creatures below showed any awareness of the human invader watching their carefree lives.

That was nice.

My trip also included a quick jaunt into Baileyville, one of my favorite little nooks during both spring and fall.

Though they live within sight of the highway, the residents appear to be a bit like the wildlife in the pond.

They enjoy their own private spaces and create their own brand of beauty.

Someone in Baileyville really knows how to apply paint to a house and give it an eye-catching special touch.

Life always seems serene in this little area of farm fields and long-established rural homes.

Down on Selle Road not too far off from HWY 95, a food truck operated by the Miller family is now open for business every Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

So, when you go for your drive along country roads, you could stop off for a bite to eat along the way.

At the Lovestead, life is also sublime for Miss Sunny.  She's been queen of our barn for almost a year now, and she seems very much at home.

Plus, she's awfully pretty while escorting me on the green grass surrounding her domicile.

ANZAC Day  in Australia and New Zealand has probably passed, but it's April 25 here, so in honor of our Aussie and Kiwi friends, I'd like to end with a profoundly beautiful song which pulls my heart strings with every listen.

This day Down Under is a remembrance day to honor all the Aussie and Kiwi troops who have sacrificed during wars.

The flag in the photo below was given to us by three Australian ladies, Polly, Danni and Joyce, who spent a week with us a few years back, bedding down in what we called the "New Old Motor Home."

Twould be an understatement to say that they truly had the time of their lives during that visit.  And, we enjoyed THEM too.

The song is long but poignant.

A disclaimer:  some of the images to go along with the song have probably been inserted to represent the lyrics, not always specifically Australia or New Zealand---but always the sacrifices of war.
