Thursday This and That

Another rainy day has come and gone.

This one has been generous---lots of mud puddles and, again, millions of water droplets.

The mountains are still socked on this morning when the prediction says the rain is supposed to stop.

Just like the virus, our weather predictions (especially those with lots of suns) have kept us wondering.

Yesterday's rain was pretty much nonstop, so I decided to turn toward domestic projects, including some vacuuming.

The highlight, though, came in the form of two loaves of homemade bread and a couple of pans of caramel/nut rolls.

Besides the calories and the taste, this project kept the house radiating with that wonderful aroma of fresh-baked bread.

That was nice, especially cuz it hung around for hours after the rolls and bread came from the oven.

The schedule today---if it's not raining---calls for several hours of lawn mowing.

I hope those clouds go away and that the ground dries enough that the mower doesn't leave tracks in the grass.

And, so, we mosey along toward the Fourth of July holiday.

After Lions Club (dedicated sponsors for decades) postponed the parade and the usual day's events  because of health concerns associated with Covid, we are still having a parade in Sandpoint, only with different sponsors.

Many of us are wondering why after virtually every local and regional event involving large groups of people has been canceled.

Maybe some people know a whole lot more stuff about Covid on the local, regional, national and world level that other folks, even the medical experts, know.

I wish they'd let us in on their secret to having the confidence that nobody will get sick or will spread the virus if they participate in the parade or in family fun events like  the three-legged race or the watermelon-spitting contest.

Don't those silly medical "experts," who probably got their knowledge from an overnight stay at Holiday Inn Express,  talk about droplets going into the air when they're issuing guidelines about Covid?

Maybe I'm just a confused old lady, or maybe I learned that fact from listening to the dang fake news again.

I did see yesterday that the organizers drew up a legal form for this Independence Day event, reminding participants that organizers are not responsible for anything that goes awry.

Speaking of medical experts, I heard the other day from a United States Congressman that experts don't need to be telling us what to do.

Guess it's the new normal.

Pardon me, if I'm scratching my head in wonderment a lot these days with my commentary, but this world sure has become confusing.

In the meantime, we'll do our best to play it safe and stay home, enjoy some barbecue and celebrate America in our own quiet way.

We usually follow that plan anyway, 'cept for a couple of years ago when I acted as a judge for the Lions Club parade.

To each his or her own!

In other news, our freezer repairman Peter ordered a part for the sick freezer.  When the part comes, he figures the freezer should be good as new.

And, that will be a good thing cuz, within days, the first blueberries and raspberries will be ripening on the bushes.

Once the pickin' and grinnin' starts, freezer space for berries and green beans, etc. will be a priority.

Plus, my sisters will probably be happy to quit having to push our stuff aside to get frozen items for their meals.

In the repair department, we also had the chimney guys come yesterday.

They were amazing as they climbed those ladders onto that steep, wet roof and quickly determined that the metal sheet surrounding the chimney is filled with holes from rust.

So, they'll fashion a new metal sheet, and in the next week or so, install it.  With that repair, the suspect pitter patter during drenching rainstorms should stop.

Of course, we'll be happy if the drenching rainstorms take a break through most of July for hay season.

Guess that's about all for today.

Happy Thursday.

Well, at least they gave us a printed poster so I will be able to know who NOT to support with my dollars from now on.
