We met Zeussa last night.
She's the new pup in the neighborhood.
She belongs to Tricia (obvious bonding there), Trent, Boston and Terra.
She joins Ridge and Jitterbug at the family farm, and her job will be to keep eagles from killing the chickens.
Zeussa came from Grangeville. Her breed "Leonberger" comes from Germany.
Here's a little more information . . .
About the Leonberger
A huge and powerful dog,
yes, but the Leonberger is also known for his aristocratic grace and
elegance. A male can stand over 31 inches at the shoulder and weigh as
much as a full-grown human. Females run smaller but are still a whole
lot of dog.
Breed hallmarks include a medium-long waterproof coat, lush
triangular ears, a bushy tail, and a black facemask that frames kindly
dark-brown eyes.
A dramatic feature of the male’s coat is the lion-like
mane around the neck and chest. A well-built Leo moves with an easy,
elastic gait. A Leo is friendly but nobody’s fool.
As watchdogs and
all-around workers, they exhibit intelligence and sound judgment. Leos
require lots of brushing, ample room for romping, and unlimited love.
Miss Zeussa was a hit during her visit to the Lovestead last night, even with our dogs.
We knew Liam would be nice, so we let him be the greeter, and, by golly, later, even Foster just sniffed a couple of times and left our little visitor alone.
She was very well behaved as her mom, Debbie and I visited for a couple of hours, and, as I said, after just 24 hours in her new home, she definitely knows who Mama is.
In other news, we've got PUDDLES.
What a beautiful sight! I don't often say that, but after the layers of dust and the drying up of grass in the pastures, our overnight rain was most welcome.
And, there was enough to do some cleaning and soaking of roots.
We may have more in the next day or so, but then another string of perfect fall days.
Can't complain about that.
Today's project of brush hogging some fields should be much more pleasant with the much needed moisture.
And now, in the category of TBT,
and ya never know who or what you'll see . . . !
Women of Wisdom honorees a few years back.
My friend, former student and fellow photographer Kari.
A brother and sister pair at a class reunion, Wade and Tawnya. Both former students.
Jonas meets Foster when the latter was new pup on the block.
Friends and always fun: Jeralyn, Kathy, Kari and M.
In the ol' Lodgepole Society induction days: Cookie, brother Mike, Debbie and niece Laura.
A grand lady of Sandpoint and Woman of Wisdom, Jane Evans.
Bernice Lewis may have been the oldest recipient ever of the Woman of Wisdom honor. She lived beyond 100 years. Her husband Dub (of local Dub's fame) sold my mother her first horse.
A few years back, Randy Curless showed the folks on the annual farm tour how his Border Collies herd sheep.
The sheep complied.
Sisters Laurie and Barbara with sister Jessie and Meggie when they were new pups on the block.
My buddy Larry Jeffres at a local dedication ceremony.
And, of course, Love is all there is or should be!
