Monday Miscellany

Jim Lewis, Jeralyn Lewis Mire and Jerry Lewis when Jeralyn celebrated her 50th birthday a few years back.

Anyone who watched the first segment of CNN's series on First Ladies last night, saw this lovely lady of Sandpoint.

As we were watching, I told Bill to keep an eye out for Jeralyn, and, sure enough, at the end of the documentary, there she was in all her glory, standing behind Michelle at the last speech Michelle ever gave as First Lady.

Jeralyn was there in Washington, D.C., during that speech, representing Idaho as its high school counselor of the year.

If you didn't see her and the show runs again, watch for Jeralyn at the end.

Pretty cool that our Sandpoint High School counselor and my LONG time friend and former student is in an iconic photo which has been published around the world and is shown over and over in reference to Michelle Obama.

Also pretty cool, speaking of Sandpoint High students and their parents who are also Sandpoint High graduates.

CONGRATULATIONS to Camille Neuder, daughter of Steve and Elizabeth (Foster) Neuder for being named the 2020 Idaho Distinguished Young Woman.

Camille took the crown (sorta) in a virtual competition with DYW's from around Idaho.

Congratulations to Mom, Dad, sister Julia and some for sure proud grandpas, etc.

An interesting note of personal history:  back in about 1985, my mother and I traveled to Mexico City where my brother Mike and his family lived.

On our way, we stayed overnight in Los Angeles.  While Mother went with her lifelong friend from Michigan, I spent about 24 hours with Steve Neuder, Jeralyn Lewis and Mitzi Hawkins, all former beloved students who were living in LA at the time.

It was 24 of the most active hours I've ever spent in my life----walking through Hollywood, going to a show at the Comedy Store, arriving at someone's apartment around 2 a.m., not sleeping, going to Mass around 6 a.m., visiting with Jeralyn's horse, and then 12 hours in Disneyland.

I couldn't have asked for three more fun people with whom to experience such a California cultural marathon.

I think I may have slept really well on the plane when my mother and I reunited and headed on to Mexico City.

Thirty-five years later, these three friends have all returned home to Sandpoint and all contribute to our community in countless very significant ways--the high school, Lutheran Church and Litehouse, Inc.

Great friends and phenomenal peeps.

On another Sandpoint topic, my dear friend and classmate Edd Bangeman sent me the item below overnight.

He said his wife Karen had sent it to him 50 years ago, probably when Edd was serving in the U.S. Navy.

I don't know if people are still eating Wheat Hearts mush for breakfast in Sandpoint, but I do know the men and women of Sandpoint work hard for a living.

And, the kids probably still do need more mush than the adults.

At the Love house, fresh, cold applesauce has been delighting both Bill and my tastebuds.

I haven't looked this morning, but yesterday, a spoon remained in the applesauce dish as each of us took our turns (with different spoons, of course) sampling the leftover sauce which did not go into the jars below.

I need to find me some more apples because four pints just isn't gonna do it at our house over the long winter months, especially since we have ordered another half a pig.

Nothing better than pork chops dipped in applesauce.

It's another pretty day outside my window and on a Monday morning when the Seahawks have won yet another game (4-0), optimism is brimming over.

Of course, I haven't read much news yet!

Happy Monday.  Eat your mush!
