If the weather forecast is correct, I have a busy, busy day ahead.
For some reason, this fall my usual methodical approach to getting preparations done for winter has gone awry at times.
This has happened, thanks to breakdown problems with my main leaf-collecting lawnmower, uncooperative weather, leaves refusing to fall and some inside commitments coming at key times when I really need to be outside tending to the "to do" list.
The weekend meeting commitment has ended, thankfully, the back-up lawnmower has putzed along as a mulcher rather than a mower/picker upper, and today looks like I'll have one dry day before the snow begins to fall again.
So, I'm anticipating a lot of racing around tending to a variety of jobs. Hoping to get most of it done---mostly yard and pasture work.
It will all be good work, and if I'm successful with today's high-octane approach, we'll be ready for winter.
Hopefully, the predicted snow won't start falling before the deer finish eating the pumpkins in the woods area out south of the house.
I threw away about 20 which froze when we had our first 2020 winter. The day after I disposed of them, I drove around on my lawnmower and observed that something had come in the night and had begun its feast.
Glad to see that all those pumpkins were of good use to something, especially the natural world.
Just checked the news and see that today looks like a VERY good day, indeed.
Pfizer has announced this morning that its vaccine for Covid 19 is more than 90 percent effective. The stock market is setting records for soaring.
Not a bad thing to learn on a Monday morning AND if that's not enough good news for today, my sisters have been doing about 90 percent of their competitive horse activities virtually through this Pandemic.
That would include coaching some youth members of their Emerald Empire Arabian Club for a couple of national contests, held virtually, of course.
Yesterday, they posted the following news:
Congratulations
Emerald Empire Arabian Youth for your Great Job in the AHYA National
Hippology Contest with CayliJo Giard taking 5th place individual in the
Judging portion. Also Lindsay Kuster for her 3rd place in the judging
portion.
Most of all Congratulations To the EEJAHC TEAM with CayliJo,
Lindsay, Hannah Huffman, and Sophie Huffman, for your FIRST PLACE TEAM
award in the JUDGING PORTION!!!
All of your hard work on judging has
paid off. Good Luck in the Judging Contest next week!!!
Pretty cool.
Congratulations, Barbara and Laurie Tibbs and team members.
Keep up the good work.
Finally, on this Monday, I'm once again featuring my friend Connie's blog post.
I know my husband, Bill, the forester, is going to really enjoy this posting because it's about logging and it features one of his favorite logging contractors, Travis Kiebert.
Connie has lots of great photos of a weekend operation on their land and a neighbor's to remove blowdown from a recent storm.
So, go visit her blog and enjoy.
Happy Monday. Off to work I go.
