If you were a Chiefs fan, the Super Bowl ended about halftime.
Oh, Bill and I gave Kansas City some hope and kept watching off and on. After all, we had food to eat.
Nevertheless, it seemed like their efforts through most of yesterday's game rivaled the ups and mostly downs of the Pandemic---going nowhere fast.
In spite of our disappointment with the game, Bill and I made the most of our two-person festivities.
I prepared some deviled eggs, which have always been popular at past Super Sunday extravaganzas.
The eggs helped provide a small sense of normalcy as did the anticipation that Bill would go to town and pick up a pizza at Pizza Hut.
Once that arrived, serving as the centerpiece for the accessories of cukes, bananas, meatballs, chips, candy and those eggs, we were ready to dig in.
Oh yeah, he also brought home a six-pack of Goose Island ale, which we first tasted in Chicago a few years back, learning that the hops came from Bonners Ferry.
We each sipped one bottle of beer.
After sitting and enjoying our first course of goodies as the Super Bowl started, we just grazed from the kitchen island throughout the rest of the game.
And, we each dabbled in other activities around the house to distract us from just how bad the second half happened to be.
We were actually sitting in our respective couch spots for the Bruce Springsteen Jeep ad, about trying to find the "middle" again in America.
As middle-type people, The Boss's words and the scenes were music to our ears.
Other than that, I thought Amanda Gorman's poetry recitation paying tribute to the Super Bowl honorary captains, a teacher, a nurse and a veteran, was particularly poignant.
I also chuckled at a few ads.
All in all, the big day did not quite meet our expectations game-wise, but the rest of the production seemed well done and especially heartfelt, considering the circumstances.
Before the Super Bowl activities, I went to town with my new i-phone and my old one. As first person in the door, I stayed inside to have my data transferred.
Chevelle, the staffer who worked with me demonstrated efficiency and friendliness as we enjoyed visiting.
I was amazed at how fast the process went, especially thinking back on the "old days" when purchasing and transferring data to my first-ever i-phone took five trips to AT and T and seven hours of frantic stress.
Since then, I must say that having Cloud storage has made all the difference.
I was feeling great stress leading up to the phone transfer process.
At Christmas time when we tried to purchase my new phone only to discover that they didn't have the exact model, Annie counseled me to sign in to my Apple ID account, just to make sure I knew my password when I did get a new phone.
Well, I finally followed her instructions yesterday morning and, by golly, I KNEW my password.
Turns out I never needed it at the store, but that's okay. This time I've written it down and put it in a safe place which I hope to remember in the future.
The phone is very nice, a little bigger than my other with much improved features, including video clarity.
I took a few pictures yesterday and will study up on each of the additional features available with the phone camera.
As I went out the door to go to my phone provider, Bill observed: you have a couple of big events this week, don't you?
Yup, and I don't know which is more meaningful, the new phone or that second Moderna shot tomorrow.
Both are life-altering events, for sure.
And, I'm thinking and hoping that when Event No. 2 is over, and once I'm alive and kicking again, it's gonna be like a true Renaissance: rebirth on life and a neat new creative tool to record it all.
In the meantime, I'm now down to counting the hours until The Poke. It's an exciting time.
Those hours will go much faster, thanks to the ZAGS.
It's Game Day once again. Here it this house we're ready for a better game than we watched yesterday.
Should be a good one, as Gonzaga takes on Brigham Young University at the Marriott Center in Provo---this time minus about 22,000 enthusiastic Cougar fans.
Keeping our fingers crossed that it goes well tonight. One never knows with BYU!
Game time: 8 p.m. PST
ESPN
No. 1 Gonzaga vs. BYU
GO, ZAGS!!!
