On a Record Hot Day; Icelandic Dispatches

If you have no access to swimming or floating, a wet towel around the neck really helps.

Hoot Owl Restaurant  will be closed through July 5.

from owner Wendy:   This is how I feel today. The kitchen was 123 degrees and the dining room was in the high 80s. This is all with the air on.

We are extremely understaffed and incredibly overworked. I can’t have my people working in this heat. We are going to need a few days off.

We will be back July 5.

~~~~~~
Fireworks have been banned in Bonner County.
After being watered in the morning, my pumpkins had wilted by 1 p.m.
When I grabbed the hose to revive them, the water coming from the hose was scalding hot.
I saw a lady at Kootenai Post Office put her hand on the metal railing.  She immediately removed it.
Bill, Foster, Liam and I took an air-conditioned early-evening trip up Rapid Lightning Road. We stopped for a minute at Pack River General Store to watch some river floaters end their day's journey.
Then, we continued on----for a ways, that is!
A gate has shut off the road leading to the spectacular aspen grove and the amazing views of the Selkirks.
We'll be checking into why this has happened.
We met up with another gate on the Trapper Creek Road, but at least we got the views and some lovely moments admiring fireweed and daisies.
This morning Bill will take the travel trailer to Lake RV for summer prep.  That means that by tomorrow we probably won't have to go for drives to stay cool.
The trailer has air conditioning, and it will be nice to have around for the Fourth of July festivities.
I have been rather amazed at how I've handled this heat.  I hate heat. The strategy has involved keeping busy and doing projects inside the house during afternoons, with that wet towel, of course.
Seems like one more really bad day, and we will have survived.  Not so sure about the long-term effects, though, on the land.  Fingers crossed.  Still no rain in the forecast for the next ten days.
After returning from our evening trip, I saw this little guy at the garden bird house.  While Mom and Dad sat on the fence, the baby enjoyed looking over the world outside its home.
Meanwhile, off in Iceland, the kids are catching fish.
A text early this morning reported that each of the trio had caught a fish.
Annie held her fish, even though she doesn't like the feel of fish wiggling.
Bill texted back for her to catch bigger fish so they wouldn't wiggle so much.
They are fishing today with a highly recommended Icelandic guide.
They are staying in Reykjavik but will move on to a small town on the island.
Debbie says this is as dark as it gets in Reykjavik during this time of the year.
Photo was taken at 10 p.m.
They thought about renting the rig above but settled for the one below.
Driving is not a factor since the cars go on the same side of the road as the States.
Photos and fun stuff provided by Annie, Willie and Debbie Love.
Thanks, kids.  We're loving your adventures.
The beat in Iceland goes on while the heat goes on back here in the Pacific Northwest.
Fascinating sagas, for sure.
Happy Wednesday.
