This is one of those Saturday's when folks I know seem to be headed out all different directions.
Bill has left for Elk, Wash., where a forest fire started near one of his client's homes yesterday afternoon.
Like any spark these days, it soon spread quickly, just like the fire that required an evacuation of Silverwood Theme Park near Athol a little later yesterday afternoon.
So, as a conscientious forester, Bill will go to the fire and assess what needs to be done once the fire is contained.
Meanwhile, my sisters are headed to Montana to pick up a load of "gold-er-HAY."
The lady who's selling them the hay posted on Facebook the other day that hay is the new toilet paper.
It's scarce, and everyone's desperately looking for it.
Fortunately, for Barbara and Laurie, this hay will serve as a supplement to their homegrown supply which went into the barn last week.
As seen in a photos below, Annie and her friend Miriam are climbing Mt. St. Helens today. They started very early to beat the heat.
As for me, I'll be staying home, partly to get everything ready for CB's return tomorrow, to work on some projects AND to keep home fires FROM burning.
In times like these with all the catastrophes that seem to be happening (shootings, car accidents, fires and such, domestic animals running loose), it's good for someone to hang around for simple vigilance.
This weed has me very concerned.
If anyone knows what it is and if it's dangerous, I'd love to know what to do about it.
I don't think I've ever seen it before, at least not on our place.
It has shown up in abundance in our two small pastures and in the round pen this summer, and it seems to have a knack for spreading.
So far, the horses have left it alone. Even if it's non-toxic, the rapidity with which it has appeared and spread is disturbing.
Looking like that big sun is gonna heat us up again today and for the next several days.
Stay cool. Happy Saturday.

There is an app called 'Picture This' that I've found very helpful in identifying the odd plant/weed. Provides useful info about it as well. Give it a try!
