My friend Janice, who lives just up the road, posted the following on Facebook last night:
The grass is brown and crunchy and smoke fills the sky, but the flowers don’t seem to mind and for that I’m thankful. ![]()
Her comment accompanied a photo of beautiful flowers which surround her home.
We have to sort out the beauty from an otherwise drab landscape during these dry, hot days of Summer 2021.
Finding color outside our own gardens, which we continue to nurture, can be challenging.
Nonetheless, if we look, we'll still find some amazing scenes to whet our appetites for something besides the overwhelming "blah."
Those sights, when we find them, can have powerful impact, simply because they stand out so dramatically.
I saw some rich greens yesterday in some places where it's pretty obvious irrigation at the hands of humans has been at work.
My eyes took enjoyable note and my emotions soared, seeing these welcome examples of contrast amidst a landscape filled with smoke and "crunchy, brown grass."
Nice to have such moments during this long dry spell AND especially nice to know---at least we think we know---that the oppressive heat will cease in the next day or two.
And, if we are really lucky, maybe a little more rain will come to revive this year's edition of natural beauty.
For now, intermittent sights of colorful life, joyful living and nature's bounty will suffice.
Yup, dear friend Janice, you nailed it in your Facebook post.
And, by the way, your flowers are beautiful, as always.
Happy Wednesday.
