I didn't get this German Shorthaired Pointer's name, but he was definitely an eyecatcher while chasing after sticks in the low, low waters of Pack River swimming hole yesterday afternoon.
I did talk briefly with his owner Terrance, who had come to the usually crowded swimming hole with his two sons and his "best friend."
While we were chatting, one of the sons brought over a small snake he'd caught near the bridge.
I told Terrance that my usual aversion to snakes must have subsided a bit because I'd seen two at our place so far this summer and did not run the other way.
Still, I was happy when Terrance's son kept the snake at a reasonable distance from me as he showed it off.
Only one other person occupied the swimming area during my visit. He seemed quite content with his phone and backpack while occupying his own little world under the bridge.
Twas a nice interlude in another smoky, warm afternoon.
Bill and I had left the house about the same time. He went to Upper Pack with his fly rod while I spent most of my brief getaway with my camera on the Lower Pack at the swimming hole and, later, near the general store.
General store activity was subsiding for the day as the place had earlier served as a destination for the usual great meals and the spot to learn any new information about the fires up Trestle Creek, not too far from the many residences in the Rapid Lightning drainage.
I enjoyed walking around outside the store which offers a nice array of floral arrangements on its outdoor tables.
With no dining occupants, I had the freedom to walk around and get a few shots of the lovely colors.
It was definitely a leisurely, enjoyable and relatively quiet afternoon at places which are usually bustling with peeps AND dogs.
I spent the rest of my afternoon, enjoying my own flowers and the Lovestead doggies.
Bill finished his fishing and arrived home shortly before Friday-night dinner time with my sisters.
Again, our dining experience was relaxing, tasty and fun, catching up on the week's news.
Only two more days of predicted beastly hotness and smoke.
Maybe, just maybe, we'll get a dramatic break in the weather in time for next week's county fair.
That would be nice.
For now, as my sister Laurie sez, we'll just take all this one day at a time.
Happy Saturday.
