Éire 2021 Lá a Trí

Barr o 'ar maidin go ya!

We spent much of our Saturday outside, strolling through downtown Kenmare, visiting Molly Gallivan's Cottage, a few miles from Kenmare and Bonane Heritage Center just down the road from Molly's.

We hiked, Bill found a geocache, we visited with old friends, met some new and just enjoyed a relaxing pace throughout a sunny day occasionally interrupted by profuse but brief rain showers.

Still pinching ourselves about our good fortune of being here.

Kenmare police station where cops are known as Guarda.

Fun to read about my maiden name.

Friends along our way.

Above: Vince and Mary, our B and B hosts at the Rose Garden Bed and Breakfast in Kenmare.

Below:  Sabine and Gunner sat next to us at PF McCarthy's last evening.  I observed a stunning resemblance in Gunner.

Maybe a few others will too.  Sabine and Gunner live in Berlin, but they love Ireland and are spending a month here.

O'Sullivan cousins Steve and Bernard are part of the Molly Gallivan's Cottage crew.

When we mentioned that we were from Idaho, Bernard told about a time a while back when groups of college English majors from the University of Idaho coming each year to study the great Irish literary figures.

Bernard was born in Detroit but has spent much of his life in Ireland.  Steve and his family purchased Molly's cottage and farm and developed it into a wonderful historical setting, illustrating the farm life of Molly Gallivan.

While enjoying some tea and a scone in the beautiful afternoon sun at Molly's we met Tara Tinder, a tour guide and foundation administrator from Wisconsin.

Tara has been taking groups to Ireland for several years.

The hike through Bonane Heritage Center, with its abundant and colorful heather, ivy, mountain ash and holly trees is stunning.

Headed for the Dingle Peninsula today, where Gaelic is prominent.

Happy Sunday.
