Another gorgeous April morning, another wonderful walk in the woods with Bridie, another day of feeling grateful for the beauty of spring.
It's starting to pop up all over.
I'm guessing that by week's end, the year's baby leaves will be creating that special early spring radiance during evening sunshine.
Yesterday was a winner most of the day until some quick rainstorms blew over, in one case leaving a gorgeous late afternoon rainbow.
Bill took his pontoon boat to Cocolalla Lake and did some fishing.
The highlight of my day was visiting with Cecil and his friend Emily who came to take care of my horses' hooves.
Cecil had an unplanned situation that caused him to be late, so, by the time he arrived, I had groomed five horses with only 12 hooves.
Doesn't add up, you might say.
Well, I actually groomed three horses for Cecil and then groomed two a second time because they rolled in the mud while we waited.
Lily's dirty coat stood out among the trio. I kept her tied to the fence after brushing layers of mud, dust and old hair. When I found out Cecil was going to be a bit later, I turned her back out to the barnyard.
It took her only about five minutes to go down, in an especially wet area, and enjoy a good roll.
So, while Emily held them, Cecil trimmed hooves on dirty horses. I was proud of each of them, though, as they all behaved perfectly.
If we don't get too much rain in the next few days, I'm guessing the horses will shed most of their winter hair, which will make grooming much easier.
In other news, my friend Kari put out a request for folks to consider purchasing some flower baskets through the Ponderay Rotary.
I'll include her note below. So, if you can help with this project by prettying up your place, I know they'll appreciate the support.
From Kari, who's president of the Ponderay Rotary.
Thank you so much for helping us on our Flowers for Futures hanging flower basket sale. The proceeds from this sale will benefit our area through educational scholarships for young and old alike, and projects to better our community. We can’t thank you enough!
