Celebration at The Cabin

It's rather ironic that the Thompson family cabin is located close to Sleep's Cabins on Lakeshore Drive.

That irony is reserved for two families united 55 years ago when Judge Frances Sleep officiated at the wedding ceremony for Mike Brown and Mary Thompson.

Last night members of both families who witnessed the wedding, children and grandchildren, in-laws aka outlaws and a few new faces to the crowd gathered to celebrate Laura Brown Laumatia's achievement of her doctoral degree from the University of Idaho.

Pizza from Second Avenue drew the crowd along with a desire to see everyone and to reconnect with some members of the extended family who hadn't seen each other for a couple of years.

The Cabin has served as the setting for many other get-togethers involving members of these two families, and last night, as usual, it served its purpose well with its location overlooking Lake Pend Oreille.

As always, the pizza, salad, ice cream and cookies were great, as was the visiting.

Bill, Willie and I really enjoyed getting acquainted with JT's adopted son Tre and his adorable little daughter.

I could sense a  pretty instant common bond between Willie and Tre when the word "basketball" came up in conversation.

Twould be a toss-up to guess who of the two loves the sport the most. Tre was associated with the NIC basketball team when he met JT.

I also established a pretty good bond with Tre when the mention of mowing lawn came up.  As the maintenance director at a Post Falls school, he's a true aficionado of the joy that comes with mowing a good lawn.

I even promised him a chance to come and try out my Zero-Turn Husqvarna.

He beamed.

Lots of other topics and lots of catching up with different members of the crowd made the gathering speed by all too quickly.

In our case, dogs were at home waiting for their outside break, so we said good bye and both agreed that it had been a wonderful gathering.

And, so the celebration is over, and we all go back to the usual projects of spring.

For me, the day will involve a little lawn mowing and the increased joy, knowing that I share lawn-mowing camaraderie with yet another person.

Happy Monday.
