Iceland, Ireland Air Travel Day

It's midnight in Ireland.

Bill is reading a book, and I'm working on this blog post.

We heard on the plane that there is a heat wave in Ireland.

Let's just say it's a warm night, and we jet-lagged souls cannot sleep.

Our bodies think it's 4 p.m. instead of midnight, and there are no sheep hanging around our hotel to count, so we might as well do something.

If we can grab a few hours between now and daylight, maybe we can get to the sheep country and fall asleep with a little more ease.

Our day has involved a few nod off's on the flight from Seattle to Iceland and on the last leg of the trip from Iceland to Dublin.

We have also dealt with heat on the plane and heat here in Swords, a lovely little burb in North Dublin.

We about froze to death when we deplaned in windy Iceland and walked to a bus which took us to the airport terminal.  Buses have been the norm for getting on and off planes on this trip.

Once we arrived at Dublin, however, the bus didn't show up until the stairway for us to get off the plane came.

That took half an hour after we first hit the ground of Ireland.  The pilot apologized, saying things were going slowly in Dublin.

I must say, however, with all the airport confusion worldwide, the stairway problem was the worst situation we encountered.  Every other aspect of the flights from Spokane to Dublin went very smoothly.

And, so we are here and happy. Our arrival was made especially pleasant thanks to Joe and  Rob who welcomed us with genuine charm and carried our luggage up several sets of stairs to our "penthouse" rooms here at Forty-Four Main Street Hotel.

The fact that our rooms with a view of the Swords Central Square are on the top of the building may just contribute to the warmth. And, the municipal noises outside our open window are providing distractions to our quest for sleep.

The hotel, restaurant and bar are lovely, to say the least.  Joe and Rob represent the establishment very well with their quick wit and friendliness.  We know we are in Ireland because that's the rule with most people we meet here.

Other than having our dinner and walking around town, it's been a typical day at the end of nearly 30 hours of being awake.  The evening was topped off by some wonderful ice cream treats at a nearby mall.

So now, it is Friday in Ireland, and later on this day we'll go to Kildare where we'll visit the beautiful Irish National Stud and Japanese gardens, the Curragh plain and other fun sites.

We'll also meet Annie who has been having a great time hiking and sight seeing in the Wicklow Mountains, south of Dublin.

Busy, fun times ahead, and if we can catch up on our sleep and just count sheep along the roadside and not in bed, we'll have some great experiences.

Happy Friday from the Emerald Isle.
