Odds and Ends

This kitty came to a horse club meeting last night---even occupied its own chair, nodding off occasionally.

I can't remember if he is really a she or of she is really a he.

Maybe an "it," or, these days, a "they."

The kitty showed up at my sisters' place several months ago and has made him/herself fully at home and endearing itself to humans.

As a person who's written about the discomforts of girdles during adolescence, I, of course, had to read this piece about union suits.

I found it enlightening, and I'm really thankful that we women have come a long, long way in our clothing options.

It was farrier day at the Lovestead yesterday. Steve Rice, who shoes horses for my trainer Mary, came again . . . with a team.

Yesterday, I met his wife Jan, who's also a farrier and an entomologist.  Accompanying them was Kyle who is learning the ropes of foot care for horses.

I enjoyed watching the precision with which this trio worked.  With three horses tied to the fence, they all played specific roles in making the process efficient.

Yesterday's visit involved re-shoeing CB, trimming and adding front shoes to Lily and trimming Lefty.

I think each horse had a chance to know each person, and horses and peeps all got along.

Another fun aspect of yesterday's session involved the levels of organization, ranging from where to set up the equipment to carefully counting out the nails.

Afterward, Jan used her little roller tool to scan the ground for metal bits which might have fallen while they were working.

And, at the end, Steve handed out treats to each of the horses, which are now good to go for another couple of months.

It was a fun and productive session, and our dogs now have some tasty horse-hoof chewies to enjoy.

I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

I included the one above because of a recently oft-repeated quote uttered while we were driving through Dublin:   Where in the world is this taking us?

Was learning cursive really necessary?

*I was in a Starbucks Coffee recently when my stomach started rumbling and I realized that I desperately needed to fart.

The place was packed, but the music was really loud so to get relief and reduce embarrassment I timed my farts to the beat of the music.  After a couple of songs I started to feel much better.

I finished my coffee and noticed that everyone was staring at me.  I  suddenly remembered that I was listening to my Ipod
(with ear piece) - and how was your day?*
