Slight Detour: Wednesday Blend

A very nice way to start the day . . . from Bill Peterson, a member of Kiwanis Scout Troop 111 when Bill Love served as scoutmaster:

As for me, my life has been a major adventure. I've been to every corner of the world and have seen and experienced unbelievable things.

I retired from the FBI but am now an executive at Los Angeles County Metro.

Boy Scouts taught me leadership, esprit de corps and teamwork.

To be honest, that summer Bill took us hiking through the Bitterroots probably saved my life in some of the situations I've been in.

I saw that Bill Peterson was on Facebook yesterday, so I sent him a friend request. It's been about 30 years since Bill or I have seen him.

Once he accepted my request, we did a little catching up. I had worked with three of Bill's siblings during my teaching career, and we both knew and loved visiting with his parents.

It's always gratifying to learn that the influences you've had along someone's life journey mean so much years later.

Bill Peterson certainly made his Scoutmaster Bill Love's day.

In other news, we enjoyed some lovely sunshine yesterday. It was definitely a layer-shedding day in early January. I'm sure that won't last long.

I decided to take advantage of the sunshine and headed to where else but SUNNYside Road.

I thought it would be nice AND beautiful to drive the loop.

Twas beautiful, but I did not drive the loop. Once the pavement ended, the watery, mud-filled potholes began.

No relief from the bump, bump, bump regardless of where I steered the Subaru down the road.

I did meet Roger, a longtime resident of Sunnyside, and he agreed that he hadn't seen it that bad for a long time.

It needs grading, he said.

For sure. Definitely not an area to take a leisure drive, even if does wind along that beautiful lake.

In spite of the bad road, the sunshine and snow provided some lovely winter scenes.

Last evening, besides enjoying every time the Banshees of Inisherin won a Golden Globe, Bill and I were also thrilled to see the Idaho State girls basketball rankings for this week.

That will be a challenge because tomorrow night at Les Rogers Gym, the Bulldogs take on an undefeated Timberlake team which is ranked first in its division.

Should be a great game.
