This was the scene when I went to the barn this morning to feed the horses their breakfast.
Later, when I left the barn, I could see light in the east sky.
Almost three weeks of adding light to each day, and it was happily noticeable and welcome this morning.
Twas a pleasant surprise to walk outside the very first thing this morning and see that the rain had stopped AND that the ground was relatively dry.
I fully expected slop because of a steady rain-snow show from yesterday.
Actually, the precip that kept falling from the sky for hours wasn't even that bad.
Its accompanying warm temperatures brought on some productive melting with snow making its way from roof tops and icicles dripping their way into oblivion.
And, it was still pleasant to spend time outside.
Still, we have more than enough ice to keep those YakTrax on our boots.
Mid-afternoon, with trekking pole in hand, I took off down the road in the midst of yesterday's Seahawk game, which seemed to be going nowhere.
The outing gave me a good sense of how my sore knee would behave, especially after slipping on a knee brace Bill had given me.
By golly, that jaunt down the road and into the Meserve Preserve did not hurt much at all. Fortunately, the knee is slowly healing from its most recent strain from too much shoveling, and the brace gave it some extra support.
And, so, I moved on from Meserve's and walked past Gary Finney's driveway.
It feels SO good to get out and to be able to walk on these winter days.
I saw the article below this morning, which provides some of the reasons walking is good for our bodies and for our souls.
I felt a good sense of each of those reasons yesterday, especially after yet another knee recuperating period.
When I returned to the house, the Seattle game with Los Angeles was still pretty ho hum, but eventually the Seahawks pulled off a victory in overtime, opening the way for the next "IF" on their uncertain road to the play offs.
The last obstacle was cleared later in the evening when Detroit, which had lost its chance for the play-offs, defeated Green Bay.
It's not "IF" anymore.
The Seahawks will compete in the play-offs.
That development makes me really happy for Geno Smith, their quarterback, who waited patiently and worked for so many years to earn his present job. I always love a good underdog story.
And, so "Snowggy Sunday" turned out pretty well.
Now, it's another Monday when our layers of government officially go back to work.
Let's hope and pray some sanity will prevail at the local, state and national level.
Big bite to chew off, for sure, especially with the wacky priorities some have established as their major goals.
Times have changed as has the perception of statesmanship or lack thereof.
Thoughts and prayers for us, the citizenry, who have to watch the circuses and suffer the consequences.
Happy Monday, and do check out the fun video at the bottom, which I saw this morning on a FB friend's feed. It should bring a smile to your face.
