Revving Up

Back to seeing yellow school buses pass by.

Back to legislating at the state and national level or so we think.

Back to life's business in general.

I spent yesterday completing some post-vacation odds and ends.

Agreed, this is not vacation time for those of us who view every day as a Saturday.

Still, the holidays have ended, bills are due and it's time to get off the couch, quit guiltless hibernating and return to the nuts and bolts of life.

I paid a bill.  I also started the basics for a story assignment, which involved getting acquainted with yet another new friend.

And, I enjoyed spending time outside with my horses.

It was a lovely day, compared to some of the recent past.

So, horses enjoyed crowding around me in the barnyard for some coming and light hair cuts and combing.

Bridle paths had grown to about three inches, so I took the scissors and did some pruning. Like plants, they'll grow back soon enough.

Lily wasn't interested in barbershop work.  She preferred to trot away every time I approached her, so she's still looking a bit scruffy.

I like my horses to look nice, even in the winter, and now that the frigid weather has passed for a while, I could sense a faint feeling of spring while spending time with the horses.

It was a sad day yesterday for our extended family, which includes oodles of beloved pets.

My sister Laurie had to say good bye to her faithful and loving friend Jessie. Jessie was a red heeler. She was suffering from the complications of cancer.

The beautiful part of Jessie's passing involved two veterinarians, Kathy and Eileen, who went the extra mile to help.

Good good souls, both of them, and we, as a family, have experienced their "extra" care in the past.

We all appreciate them, and we know that Laurie is so grateful for their guidance and love.

Tough time, for sure, but often such sad moments offer a memorable glimpse into the hearts of others who care.

RIP, Jessie, and special hugs to Laurie.

Today we'll continue with the odds and ends of early January.  I'm taking down Christmas decorations, while Bill is finishing up some forestry work.

Tonight we hope to attend the first Sandpoint High girls varsity game of 2023.

Lewiston's Bengals are coming to Les Roger gym to play the Bulldogs.  This is a rematch, as the Bulldogs took an impressive victory when they played in Lewiston a couple of weeks ago.

Tip-off is at 7, so if you're looking for some January fun, consider showing up to cheer on the home team.

GO, BULLDOGS!

In other news, Annie has been visiting friends and doing some geocaching in Ohio for the past few days.

Yesterday she sent me a photo taken during her travels:  famed humor writer Erma Bombeck's grave.

She also visited the graves of aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright.

And, finally, the home where A Christmas Story was filmed.

It's obvious she hasn't let any grass grow in this new year---'cept maybe that "grass that grows greener over the septic tank," if ya know what I mean.

That's all.

 Happy Tuesday.
